Are there any options to leave a carry-on bag locked securly at the airport while you venture out for a couple hours before returning for your second flight to JNB? I've got a 7+ hour layover and considered going over to see the 9/11 memorial and didn't want to wag around my giant backpack.

I'll be flying United and will have access to the Polaris lounge but I can't find out if they have lockers ot not...there's no posted number I can find to get straight through to the Newark lounge and the numbers I've called they have no idea....as most I've spoken with are not in the US.

Did you use a travel agent?

No.

Looks like you’ll need to take them to one of the subway stops. I did this once at Penn Station.

I know that a lot of the business class lounges have such a thing, however most ive seen have this service closed "due to covid" even thought it makes zero sense. Additionally, the lounges are past security checkpoint, so I don't think you can leave and come back once through.

There's also a really nice memorial with a commanding view of New York City at the eagle Rock preserve in West Orange New Jersey closer to the airport. Next to it is one of the best restaurants in New Jersey the high lawn pavilion. However you could have a taxi take you to view the memorial and also eat at the best Portuguese restaurants in America I recommend campino mercado in the ironbound section of Newark. Last time I took my son there as I have job sites in the neighborhood we ate mozambican prawns it was phenomenal. When you walk in it looks like a fancy butcher shop and fish market you literally look and pick out what you want to eat before they seat you. Don't waste your time or money in libtard anti-gun NYC.

There's another memorial featuring pieces of the world trade center in Atlantic Highlands New Jersey also with a commanding view of where the towers used to be. It's right next to the bay and the ocean and you can go eat the most phenomenal seafood at bahr's restaurant just down the hill. There is ferry service to Atlantic Highlands but I'm only familiar with the ferry from there to Manhattan there might be one that goes up towards Newark. But again you can rent a car or a taxi to take you there. You can get trapped in traffic in New York City and waste 3 hours one way not to mention the money or the people you're handing it to.

I ageed with the traffic timing. I was a couple weeks ago picking up my trophies from my importer. It took 3.5 hours to get out of town.

Thanks Phil, been searching and it appears most public lockers in NYC and NJ, have been removed after 9/11. I've checked Newark Penn Station and the station at World Trade Center One. There are some services online where you can book to store your bags but it seems they are random businesses and not sure I'm comfortable leaving my bag with random people at tatoo parlors, gyms, etc where they're not indiviually locked and are accessable by other people. We'll keep searching, thank you again for the suggestion Phil.

@C.W. and Mountaineer, we were originally looking at using Uber or Lyft but after thinking about traffic we decided to lookin into riding the train or subway...the train at terminal C will takeyou to the Newark airport station where you can catch a train to the Newark Penn Station where you can take a PATH train straight to World Trade Center One (WTCO)...believe the Penn to WTCO is about a 22 min ride and leaves every 20 mins. We figured this would eliminate getting struck in traffic and seems to be pretty straight forward. Thanks for the suggestions keep them coming!

7 hours is not that much time when you look at it., all it takes is one delay and you will be trying to book another flight out.

I would just head up to a lounge and relax. If you want to seen any sites in NY plan a trip to go see them.

Eagle Rock Reservation W. Orange NJ (affluent Newark suburb)-take a ride here and enjoy NYC from afar! This is just 1 small part-it's akin to a Vietnam memorial-everyone lost has their name inscribed

This is the one in highlands NJ looking across the bay to Manhattan.
Stay out of NYC (and Newark city-the Airport actually sits atop an old landfill in Elizabeth to the south.) This way, the luggage never leaves your side, and you've minimized your exposure to The People's Republic of NJ (as opposed to worse in NY!) LOL Unsure of your time slot, but if it's between Rush Hrs (i.e. 9 am-330 pm, you should be just fine-and the Eagle Rock mem will work just about anytime as it's only 20 min away.) Good luck. Safe Travels!

I was once offered a job for a major utility company (that to this day I pay $200/mo in perpetuity LOL) overseeing its environmental cleanups in NJ/NY. I would've had to live here and take a ferry to the high-rise office in NYC. My son and I checked it out (he LOVED the idea of living oceanside,) but I had just started my own business, remotely, rarely leaving the rural country, and the benefits were overwhelmingly better, so I had to say no to a good friend that was retiring. 'Have a great pic of my young kids standing in Battery Park at the S. tip of Manhattan with the Towers in the background (from 2000) and another with my truck on top of a landfill with a plane flying overhead from EWR toward the WTC (on 9/10/20!) My co-workers were there the next morning and unfortunately had free front row seats to the whole affair. I could only see two pillars of smoke over the Preakness and Orange mtn ranges that block the view of NYC from the west.

Thanks for all the tips, appreciate it.

Small world, I overseeing environmetnal cleanups for a large uility here in Texas. I was actually on Tinker airforce base, just out of OKC, in a creek collecting water samples when the first plane hit the north tower. Had the truck doors open listening to the raido when they interupted and said a plane had just struck...we all assumed it was a small cesna aircraft...until the second plane hit. Didnt get to see it till 9pm that night becuase we knew we would not get back on base if we left for lunch. Getting on and off base the next few days took several hours...the guards were really interested in the peristaltic pump we had and all the little glass bottles with liquid that said HCL on them.

2 of my clients' offices are in TX and another friend (retired Zim PH that guides on) another friend's ranch in the Hill Country is married to a gal that was some big wig at an env co in Houston! LOL Sm World indeed! 1 client was out in W. TX spraying prickly pear w/ god knows what this week (can't wait to bust his balls about it when he returns!) LOL

LOL i have done all of that and on occasion do it still! HCL is the preservative in vials for VOCs and the peristaltic to slowly purge wells and not aerate them in VOCs sampling. LOL Been there, done a lot of that! Much better weather/scenery by you to do it! Industrial City/Pt. Arthur is a little unhealthy. lol Other friends have cleaned up Galveston Bay. 'Saw some msg spray-painted on the side of an abandoned building between Marfa and Terralingua that read (in spanish!) No Nuclear Waste Water in our Deep Water Wells!

I'll likely be retiring down there (at least from Jan-May ev year!) in a few...Many friends down there and of course TX is exceptionally hunting (and weather) friendly....and LOVE the food too!

I can help with putting a group hunt together.
I can also help out with getting group rates.
For example.
In 2028 I am taking 12 others to Namibia.
For Namibia our group deal is:
