NECG Traditional Trap Grip Cap

Has anyone installed one of these, specifically on a CZ-550? I am building a semi-custom .404 Jeffery at the moment and I was thinking about having one installed. Is it actually a useful feature? What do you store inside of it? I worry a little bit about the trap door falling open, is this concern well founded? I have posted a link to the product below.

I use a rifle (not a CZ550) with a similar arrangement.

It's possibly the same Recknagel / NECG part - looks the same.

Never had an issue with it popping open.

Notionally for storing spare front sight beads. I've never got around to getting any.

I mean it looks cool, but I've never had to replace a front sight in the field. Do you think it could fit anything else that would be useful?

I've had multiple trap door grip caps....don't like them. Had one that was loose, not cool on a nice rifle,...don't have that rifle anymore. Have one on my go to 375 but never use it. IMO not really useful, easy enough to keep a spare front sight somewhere else. That said a proper rifle needs to have a metal grip cap, preferably a 2 screw.

They are for storing small things like different front sight inserts/ sight hoods etc, for changing in the field, more suited to older rifles with cartridges that used temperature sensitive powders, they will only pop open if the spring has gone weak. Not really a necessary thing today, more for looks , but still a nice addition if you want to maintain a classic feel to your rifle

Tim at Matrix is now machining gripcaps that fit factory cz stock or B&C stock.
Soon to come is a new style where the “lid” swivels rather than lift. It is sized to fit a Smithson peep sight or a std NECG front sight hood!
And the lid, with no cuts, great for engraving
