MOZAMBIQUE: Has Anyone Hunted With Roche Safaris?

They were just dropped from Boddington as one of his endorsed outfitters. Sounds like a pretty shady operation.
Beat me to it...

I also saw that Boddingtons Facebook page dropped him. Curiosity often gets the best of me, I’d love to hear the drama!!
Yea, I don't know what is going on.

I would love to know, not that I am ever hunting with Roche...I just love a good train wreck

Me too!!

Although it makes me wonder about the whole Boddington thing. This is the second time I’ve seen them making a post disassociating with an outfitter, but not giving any details.

It kind of makes you wonder what the qualifications are to receive his endorsement.

Endorsing and then dropping outfitters doesn’t seem to be a good move for his brand. He may need to re work his business model.

I generally have a great deal of respect for Boddington so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I wouldn’t jump on Boddington, people change. I know plenty outfitters that started out as good guys, and basically ended up his crooks. Wether it be salmon, fisherman, upland guides, big game guides, etc. I appreciate the fact that Craig is willing to drop people when they need to be dropped, rather than holding onto someone who does not deserve it.

I know a salmon fishing guide in Washington state who is serving a butt load of time in prison for beating the hell out of his girlfriend. But he was the nicest guy, and one of the best guides you could ever fish with. We don’t always know.

Yes, my opinion, from my knowledge of Craig (I have actually met him and discussed hunting with him personally) was that he had actually hunted with the people on his CBEO list. But maybe not.
If it turns out it is some from personal knowledge (I know some are) and others he has never hunted with and just paid to be on his list...well, I will have lost some respect for him.

Yes, things change. I have had some great hunts with outfitters that eventually retired, went out of business, sold the business....

So hard to say, it's not like C.B. can hunt with every one of them, every year to make sure things are still good. So a outfitter or two could have gone bad and all he can do is be informed of such and remove them.

But I am starting to question whether he has actually hunted with everyone on that list or just took somebody's word on it (maybe even the outfitter's word LOL) and took money to add some of them to the list.

I think I will ask him.

I hope it has some significant qualifiers, but it is paid advertising. If you want to see the original recommendations before it was they still have the original YouTube videos up for those outfitters, but all “recommendations” on website are removed.

He acknowledged that once vetted, they pay an annual fee if they want to be listed

But you can’t just buy your way onto the list.
That would be taking a serious risk to his reputation

He has some very good outfitters on his endorsed list. He’s also had a few I have idea how they made it there or arrived on his radar. I was wrong. It appears they cleaned up YouTube of past recommendations. I have a lot of doubts of any hunting celebrity’s recommendations. If someone wants to trust it they can. It’s not a bad starting point, but I wouldn’t blindly trust it.

I don't blindly trust many people or businesses. Only a very select few people that I have a deep personal relationship would I just straight up take their word and go.

That said, his model is more trustworthy than any booking agent that takes a commission for booking you on a hunt.

But like you said… It’s a good starting point

I don’t agree with this at all. There are only a few professional booking agents. Their commission model is transparent enough. The free hunt and reduced hunt model for outdoor celebrities is not transparent.

A good friend sent a deposit to Roche and the trip never materialized. Covid got in the way and then he quit responding or assisting with rifle permits and paperwork. Disappeared.

Has anyone hunted with Roche Safaris in Mozambique? I’m looking for some information on their operations. Any help would be appreciated.
There are other very good alternatives such as Marromeu (Coutada 10) or Zambeze Delta Safaris (Coutada 11); there’s no reason to take risks.

And personally I would just call The Duckworths and hunt with them.
I am hunting the world famous Savé Valley Conservancy with that legendary family next July.
But they also have camps in Moz as well

Even if he has hunted with them all, will your experience be the same? I'm sure every outfitter is going to be on their A game for Boddington or whoever else may endorse them.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
