I am in the process of hanging a shoulder pedestal mount of a Barbary sheep. The room has 9’ ceilings, but I will be putting him on a wall that has an HVAC trunk that knocks it down to 8’ tall. Is there a general rule you guys follow for height off of the floor? In my mind, his face should be around eye level for me. I’m 6’2. Any ideas?

That's personal preference. Recommend mounting it as high as you can put if without the horns hitting the ceiling.....maybe 3" below that.

If that doesn't please, consider spending some extra $$ and have it pedestal mounted.

Probably above 6’ for head clearance of most or on a pedestal if you want a low mount.

Bottom of the mount at top of your head. That way most of the mount is up out of the way but not so high that all you see is horns sticking out of chin and nose.

Thanks gents. To clarify, I just received the mount from the taxidermist. The absolute maximum I can have the top of his horns is 8’ without them touching the ceiling. To avoid looking too crowded, I think they need to be maybe 6” or so down from that?

I like to put them about 12" above eye-level or higher. If it has to be lower, no big deal, as far as I'm concerned.

I say it depends on a few things, ceiling height does not look to matter as even 8 ft for your pose is actually high in my eyes.

your preference, what you like, you will look at it most,

"traffic" in room, are there taller people who may hit nose if to low, people who will "pet" touch it,

and position/pose of mount, is it full, semi sneak, your awesome ram looks to me like it would "show" better if lower on wall. Somewhat lower with chaps just above those who may want to touch. Without those people mounts nose just above eye level possibly.

I have 16' end walls in my room and just mounted a SA blesbuck next to my Namibian one way up around 12'. The new mount does not have the chin down pose like the Namibian one and I am not as impressed with how it looks up there. Will probably remount in a lower spot.

If you have someone who can hold your sheep in a place you want, then you step back and look. If you like perfect, if not, up, down, left or right until you get what you like before anchor is installed is best way.

When I finished my room I went to the Brick and took fridge cardboard, cut out life size 2D pics of all mounts then stuck to wall before any hole was made. Worked for a single guy.

I also have 9' ceilings. The tall horned kudu, waterbuck, axis, etc are mounted so the tips of their horns are about 6 inches from the ceiling. I like to put their eyes a little above my eye level. The warthog, Nyala, buff and fox are "live" height. In my opinion I like people to see the face of the animals not the throat and chin. The kids can see them better also at the lower and live height.

Thanks all. We ended up with the face, nose bridge at eye level. Fits the space nicely. Appreciate everyone’s input.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction.
