Man eaters of Tsavo…

There are far more industrious maneaters than the old, boring Tsavo lions.
For decades, the Kruger Park lions have been eating around 200 refugees and up every year who try to immigrate illegally from Mozambique to South Africa.
And this since the civil war.
Interesting reading.

Well I finally was able to watch this episode. I suppose if one knew nothing about the incident it would have been a bit more interesting. All in all it wasn’t bad.

We talked about this show at lunch the other day. My non-safari friend knew nothing about this historical event. He mentioned that the skulls of these lions were examined and one had a broken canine and they DNA checked the debris down in the tooth cavity…human hair and bone. A real CSI-Tsavo moment.

The conversation reminded me of one of my all time favorite paintings by John Banovich. This oil painting is quite large and those piercing eyes will make your hair stand up, but once you see what they are eating…well, that’ll make your blood run cold.

Love it...happen to have one of the limited edition copies..can't remember the correct terminology for the way it's produced....giclee i think...my son when he little used to pull his miniature armchair up in front of it and stare at it...much to the disgust of his aupaire.... :A Thumbs Up: ...and the eyes follow you wherever you are in the room.....

i had four lions pretty close in SA in 2015 and slowly replaced the solids with soft points in my CZ-550 in .375 H&H. but they just walked by at about 80 yards.
