Tbitty, good idea getting inside the trailer for protection from lightning.

I don’t want to be argumentative. Or sound negative. But for everyone’s safety sake.

Be clear. It’s not the rubber that protects you from lightning.

Sitting out in an open field on a rubber tire tractor for instance with huge rubber tires gives you no lightning protection. Or standing on a flat bed trailer with rubber tire and standing on a rubber mat does not make you safe. Lightning has far too much energy for that little bit of insulation.

The trailer and steel bodied vehicles protect you by creating a faraday cage around you. Directing the voltage around you and giving the lightning a better path to ground. It’s not the tires. It’s the metal cage.

We Just don’t want people thinking it’s the tires and they sit out on an open wheel tractor or get on a rubber mat thinking they’re protected

Au Contraire, my neighbors just used a higher quality drone at night to find cattle that had been holed up in thick woods.

The signature works better at night when the temperature differential is greater. His drone is in the $7500 price range. So maybe it’s the quality that matters.

We even find small roe fawns with the drone in dense meadows.

Top ones random bottom is from a home listing near where we had a search for a mentally disabled person who ran off.

Appreciate the feedback for everyone's safety.

I understood it as a hybrid of the two: the grounding of the trailer with rubber as a low conductor. But it honestly was just my best instinct thing to do: get out of the rain and hope for the best. I had no sense of really being "safe" inside a big metal cage if lighting struck directly. Feeling the electricity in the air was enough for me to be concerned.

Top ones random bottom is from a home listing near where we had a search for a mentally disabled person who ran off.

My swamp / branch depending on where you were raised. Is at the bottom of a draw that’s 60-80 feet below the fields side of it.
At the end of one of the field it looks like you are looking at a wild grape patch growing on bushes.
When your in the bottom you see the grapes are growing in the tops of 80 feet or so black wallnut trees. Or very high water oaks.
It was a thick place before hurricane mikle came in 18. It got worse with the tress knocked down alowing all the different vines to grow to the top of the trees
For 3 generations at least we have done nothing with it except logging it a few times
