Lost my horse

The other night we had a storm roll in.
I went to check on the fence today.
My daughter horse a paint 18 year paint cracker 1/4 horse cross dead under a lightning struck tree.
Looks like the other one was close to the tree to
We could not find her. Looks like she went to the swamp and with the rain we been getting we can’t get down there to check.
I hope she is not hurt.
Have some buddy’s coming in tomorrow morning to try and get in there she 26

You have my sympathies and prayers. We had a hurricane hit that scattered a lot of local horses with many lost and others recovered alive and otherwise. It can be very traumatizing. So sorry for your loss. Please do let us know if you find the other horse that has run off. God bless.

Hope you find the other one. We’ve had 2 horses struck by lightning over the years. There was an older horse trainer we knew that got killed back in the 80’s. He was sitting on a horse in an arena talking to some cowboys sitting on the fence. Got him and the horse and blew the shoes off the horse. Knocked the guys off the fence.

A drone with thermal camera capabilities can help. Fly it at night looking for the horse.

Dang that’s a tough deal and sorry to hear! I grew up around them and understand. Best of luck finding the one missing. Drone is a good idea. Local LE may have a FLIR unit- very effective if used at night and from the air.

SO SORRY TO HEAR. HAPPENS MORE THAN A GUY WOULD THINK. WHEN WE WERE IN OCALA I HAD A BIG BLACK ROAN CLYDESDALE MARE, GENTLE AS A KITTEN BUT MY WIFE WAS KIND OF SCARED OF HER SO WHEN I HAD TO GO OUT OF TOWN ON A JOB I PUT HER ON 100 ACRES PASTURE BOARD. SPRING STORM ROLLED IN AND SHE TOOK COVER UNDER A BIG OAK WITH HER RETIRED RACE HORSE BUDDY. LIGHTNING GOT EM BOTH.

We did get the other one back. She had just hid down the the swamp.
But now she going around looking for the paint.

That wont work if theres alot of overhead cover. If its out in the open or a somewhat clear area yes.

I do hope for a happy outcome for the missing horse.

Just side note on drones. Your local fire department may have some drones and wouls be willing to try to help you look for it.

Au Contraire, my neighbors just used a higher quality drone at night to find cattle that had been holed up in thick woods.

The signature works better at night when the temperature differential is greater. His drone is in the $7500 price range. So maybe it’s the quality that matters.

Sorry for your loss, lighting is no joke, my mom was struck by lightning while talking on a landline phone, lighting hit the pole outside her house, went down the line and zapped her enough to call a EMS ambulance. They just had a electric car struck while driving down the highway , blew up and burned a hole in the ground.

Our local fire department is a 1 truck volunteer

And it’s a nasty over grown swamp bottom of 2 hill sides about 60 ft down.
It’s a place beside cutting wood some 4 generations have not been able to do anything much with it.

We did get the horse back
But she is looking for her buddy waking the fence

It means a lot to me and my wife. It’s palomino blood was traced back through the king ranch horses.
It was supposed to be a gift from my wife.
She took her back. First day working with her. The horse bit the lead rope and walked over and dropped it in my wife’s lap on the tail gate of the truck.
She got me another palomino.
And she has been the wife’s baby ever since.
She will follow my wife around like a puppy when in the pasture.
And she had the trait of having Camarillo foals
We raised 4 off of her all fillys
And very muscular build and 2 made very good cow horses

I am glad she was all right

Hey farmer john you were on cue as always with a BS response. A FLIR unit in a drone works well for people and animals, especially large animals like horses even with fairly heavy canopy because the canopy always has a few holes in it and the drone is moving creating tiny windows for the image to penetrate. A chopper with FLIR is even better because of its size and noise may cause the target to move and reveal itself. I’ve used FLIR units in heavy cover and canopy and am pretty familiar with both its capability and limitations. I didn’t notice a suggestion you came up with that was better for helping find the horse in the wooded swamp.

Is it a bs response? Or do you just feel extra spicy today? Because heavy tree canopy cover will hide thermal signatures.
Your not going to get a state asset like a flir helecopter for a missing horse. Wont even get one most the time for a missing/runaway person.

And i suggested his local fire dept may have a drone to help him find it. But heavy cover will severly degrade any use of thermal through the canopy. Not saying there are not patches here or there you cant get a peek through. But heavy tree cover is not condusive to a search with thermals.

Sorry your mad the lettuce in your taco bell betrayed you this week. But you need to chill out.

One of the bad things can’t even get the blood line back.the stud is dead the mare is dead and the men that breed them up have both gone along with heards being sold off.
Don’t find many cracker and 1/4 crosses these days.
But I am to hurt up to ride any more.
