I shot a Javan Rusa deer recently in Australia. I was told the score was around 170, and would score #10 in the SCI record book. There is a big upcharge for a top 10 animal. Just want to confirm that it is indeed #10 or higher before I pay the charge. Not interested in listing it. Thanks!

You will need to have it re scored after a predetermined drying period. I think it’s 90 days and will have to be certified by a master scorer. I think that is what I remember from mine.

Congratulations, that’s a big bugger, must be 38-40+ with long times, was he rutting ?

Back in my day 150 SCI was big.

Sorry can’t help as don’t have the new book or web access.

Could we see a pic of it please, as I’d love to see a monster like that ?

Problem with waiting 90 days is the outfitter wants his money now. I am sure he won't wait for that long to be paid. I just wanted a ballpark number if it is or isn't a top 10 animal. No interest in listing for the record book. If it isn't a top 10 now, then it won't be in 90 days either. That would save me a few thousand dollars.
Pictures when I figure that out...

Have him video somebody measuring the animal. At least you can review and or show it to a scorer near you. Seems like a reasonable approach to verify the score.

Here's top 10 in SCI South Pacific. It appears Kingham Safaris has the overwhelming VAST majority of record book entries for the South Pacific

Correct

Is there a time limit to have a trophy scored? I always wondered about that passively, until I shot a huge atypical whitetail deer in the Pennsylvania mountains last September.

I imagine there is some normal % difference between green measurement and a dried (60-90 days) measurement. I also imagine it may be species specific so getting the data may be problematic but a master scorer might be able to help.

Only a minimum time frame, no maximum time.

Normal shrink is 1-2% of gross score.

wow! So are these buggers free ranging in parts of AUS? What a areas. Congrats.
Did you end up submitting it to SCI?

Official score was 169 1/8.

Thank you for the photo & congratulations again, nice long times on that old guy, was that score NT - non typical, eg was that throw back added to the score ?

They are free range in many areas. This one was not. We hunted about 3 hours from Brisbane. Not interested in submitting to sci. On the same hunt,I shot a banteng (free range) that scored 76. That would put him in the top 10 as well. Pretty good hunt overall.

Is this near Millmerran?

The only town of any size that we went through was Colac. It is about an hour from where we hunted.

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
