Looks to be 25 caliber. No damage to the elk other than the 30 from me behind the shoulder

Looks like someone went for the old texas heart shot

I would rather say one of these two scenarios.
Pass through on a lung shot not hitting any bone and this elk was behind other one.
Hitting branch exiting branch diverted and ended under the skin the bullet has mushroomed and would not have done so just sitting uder skin without any other damage showing.

A pass through or deflected bullet that still hit.

Even a long range shot would have penetrated deeper than skin deep.

Me and my dad came across it in two elk. One was a .270 partition fully expanded just under the skin. The other was a .30 caliber chunk also under the skin. Just guessing hit a branch etc and it came apart.

I’ll agree with Brickburn and wouldn’t be surprised at what 6.5 variant it turned out to be

Have found .22 rimfire bullets and pieces of them in deer in Pennsylvania, orally after cooking. One other deer, a broadhead in the rump. The .22s probably from poachers. The broadhead likely from long range crossbow shooters and it "moved".

Well with people thanking 600m shots on ground flow.
Long range bow hunting has to be about ready for mane steam.

I'm betting on a pass through shot on another elk with this one standing behind the first.

I don't know how a bullet would expand and just end up under the hide on a elk without passing through another one.

There are hunters out there who don't understand that they need to make sure that there isn't another animal behind the first since most of the hunting that they do is not for animals that are in a herd like African animals are. I know that I made that mistake once deer hunting. I shot a buck that had a doe standing directly behind it. I killed the buck but the bullet passed through and hit the doe in the head.

All I know is the closeted Australian .243 aficionado was just in the States and next thing you know this gets posted. Coincidence??…. You decide.
He fired it from Ozzie trying to see how effective they are…..with the added bonus of ridding Oz of that terrible bullet  :ROFLMAO:

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
