Lion on the endangered list?

Sounds to me like they put most of the blame on land development and poaching rather than legal sport hunting.

In the version I read, the did place blame on "over hunting" among other things. Trouble is most people don't know the difference between legal sport hunting and poaching. To them its all the same, an abomination.

youre absolutely right sestopplman... and they call us uneducated...

I'm from California and when I say I want to hunt in Africa a lot of people look at me like I'm a serial killer. I've been waging my personal education campaign in speech class to educate the uneducated members and maybe the knowledge will spread.

im right there with you. I live in southern California. in LA county at that! haha. so you can imagine.. I really only have friends that hunt, but then again, I don't have many friends. haha.

my backyard butts up against a walking/bike trail. there is a fence, but the path is higher so people can see over into my backyard.. ive had a few times where im out back fleshing pelts and I can hear people say things about how gross it is. haha. but that's their problem!

where are you at in CA?

North County. I used to be stationed on Pendleton.

I am not sure if you guys are aware, but lion poaching has increased 10 fold. With the limited access for the asian market to acquire tiger bones to make tiger bone wine, they have reverted to lion bones due to the similar make-up and it being a large cat.

Shops in the towns sell bottles of wine in the shape of tigers and list the main ingredient as African lions and the bones of ‘precious animals’.

The wealthy customers who buy the beverage use it for medicinal purposes and because they believe it is part of Chinese culture.

If you google "tiger bone wine" you will get all the info you need...

Forgot to mention, we had three different people approach us at our stall at Huntex in April asking if we have lion bones for sale - they were offering serious money for a carcass...

A little off topic but does anyone have any information on how many humans are attacked by hyenas per year or over the past 10 years?

@Zack Young a little of topic? hahaha!!

No idea...

Just need a number for a speech assignment.

A guestimated number would work.

There's an article on here somewhere about urban hyenas chewing on the homeless/people sleeping rough.

If you find it you could glean some information and offer some figures based on fact, even if it's just in a specific area.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
