Letter of Invitation to bow hunt in South Africa

I've been told that I don't need a letter of invitation to bow hunt in SA. Is this true? Is the letter only for rifle hunters? Thanks

The letter is required to provide motivation to import a firearm.

There is no import permit for a bow.

The letter will help if you are asked questions about your destination by some customs officer in any country along your route.
