Hey all, I'm Robert. Grew up on the east coast in NC and hunted whitetail and small game. In the last couple years I have ventured into guided hunts and have completed water buffalo/banteng/camel in Australia and red stag, chamois and tahr in New Zealand. I've been doing a lot of research on African hunting and figured this would be a great place to gain insight from others. I am looking to do my first African hunt in 2027. No plans yet, but eagerly looking! I've also taken a keen interest in double rifles and plan on getting one once I've figured out what I actually want. Thanks!

Welcome from central NC.
Another good resource is Safari club international. Went to the conference first time this year was very informative.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I actually went this year for the first time also and signed up as a Life member! There are so many options, it's a bit overwhelming.

It can definitely be overwhelming. You will receive a lot of good advice from this site as well, but in the end you might have more questions than answers.

Try to determine the primary species you want, but try to remain a bit flexible because you will most likely have opportunities at beautiful trophies that aren't on your list. Establish your budget and try to stay in it. If you're like the rest of us here, you will most likely be thinking about your second trip while you're still on your first one.

Thanks for that. There is no shortage of things I want right now. :)

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you’ve had some incredible international hunts already…congrats!

Nothing beats a first trip to Africa. Looking forward to see what you end up deciding to do.

Also curious what you decided to get for your double. I’m also crushing hard on one!

Thanks a bunch. I haven't bought one yet but am definitely in the market. I don't have any experience with them yet but used to have an old SxS 12ga shotgun ages ago lol. It seems like there is a good wait time for new doubles but I don't know really. I need to shoot some different calibers and manufacturers to get a feel for them. My analytical brain is leaning toward a 470NE but that is not based on any actual use or firing one. lol

Thanks John, I am actually residing overseas right now so it will be tough for me to make it! I really appreciate the invite tho!

Welcome to the land of enablers! If you’re looking for some to talk you into Africa, double rifles or anything big bore you have come to the right place.
Enjoy every part of your African adventure, but it’s like Lays potato chips, “bet you can’t only do one”.

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
