I am interested in anyone's experience with this configuration. Because it is one strategy to take a shotgun to Africa without adding another gun to the paperwork.

I’d love to actually shot one. There was one for sale last year on guns international that kept drawing my attention.

I think it would depend on how serious you are about your wing shooting. If you are a shotgun snob my guess is that it’s not going to handle and shoot as well as a purpose built shotgun. I will be it’s more than capable of knocking down a few gunea fowl.

It would be nice to have the 20ga barrels to get some cheap trigger time in with your double.

Not so much shotgun snob but I do like German shotguns for SC and upland. In this case, strategizing how to bring a shotgun along as well as two rifles. The problem is I can't find anyone who has these barrels and I've not seen them at SCI to ask

I have a 500/416 with a set of 20ga barrels. It balances perfectly with the DR barrels and is butt heavy with the 20ga barrels. It is acceptable as a combo to take for a hunt. it won't give you the dances in the hands feel of a fine shotgun but would work for a DG hunt with birds as a add on. If it is a shotgun primary and DR second you should probably look for a different option.

I ordered my Krieghoff Teck .458 WM O/U double rifle with extra barrel sets in .375 H&H and 20 gauge 3" Magnum. The Teck was available only on a 16 gauge frame at the time. I took it with me on all of my African hunts and made good use of it. Before taking it out the first time on game, I shot skeet with it, to accustom myself to the stock and later shot skeet with the .458 barrel set using .410 shot shells. I took the stock measurements from my Perazzi skeet gun.

Perfect. I may have to drive to PA to try them myself.

Holts have a Lebeau-Courally (whatever that is) side-by-side 9.3x74R with additional 20 bore barrels coming up for sale in September: https://auctions.holtsauctioneers.c...alelot=A0921+++1250+&refno=++166591&saletype=

Estimate: £8,000 - £10,000. Note to buyers - Holts charge an outrageous 32.7% buyer's commission AND this lot suffers from 20% VAT to UK buyers.

On the other hand, they also have a buggered-about with Rigby rising bite, re-chambered from .450 to .470 (why?!) and restocked. Estimate £5,000 to £7,000. Same additional costs as above.

Bearing in mind that a new Rigby .470 rising bite will set you back £120,000 before options, buying from Mr. Holt is probably quite a good deal.

Problem with that rigby 470 is it has been buggered about with sooo much it has lost any collector value. All it has become is a working double rifle that you have to pay a massive 20% sales tax on the hammer price. You can get brand new k gun in the UK for under that. It'll be interesting to see what else pops up on the auction.

On the other hand, a rising bite rifle is like a tourbillon watch; an exquisite piece of workmanship that, in reality, adds nothing practical. Ignoring the issue of cost, would I prefer a rising bite over a mass-market Krieghoff? Yes, I'm afraid I probably would. The lines are certainly better (and so is the engraving and safety catch).

Without checking, I doubt Mr. Newton would make a new pair of barrels (and if he did, I dare say that the price would be astronomical). It's a great pity that the rifle has been buggered about with but, on the other hand, it does provide a relatively inexpensive working rifle.

As for the 20% VAT, put it through the farm or other appropriate company, and you can ignore that. If anyone asks, you are using it for vermin control.

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)

Forgive me if this is the incorrect area, I signed up to this forum just now because I wanted to be on the list to purchase a copy of your autobiography. Please feel free to pass my information along to whomever is selling. Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
I like the Tillie in my picture. They are supposed to fit loose (2 fingers inside hat band), have mesh for cooling, and hold their shape after washing.
