Love the old S&W and Colt boxes. That's a whole topic unto itself.

Nice find. Hopefully you will shoot it some to enjoy those nice actions!

I will shoot it, but probably not a lot. Smith just released the model 10 classics without the internal lock so I think I might get one of those to beat on instead.

Congrats on the new addition!

Very nice Smith. My first duty revolver was a S&W model 15 back in 1973, which was essentially a model 10 with adjustable sights.

I love these old Smiths. I was in the armory on base one time and noticed they had clearing instructions for revolvers. I asked the MP why and he showed me a really nice looking Model 10 with US Air Force stamped on the barrel. I’d love to get my hands on one of those.

I recently bought a "vintage" K-frame. It's model 12-2 with a 2 inch barrel.
After not having a K-frame for many years, the model 12 felt like it was made for my hand...

Sort of related, I was an armorer in the USMC and was stationed on Camp Foster in 2008. The Col. of our unit pulled strings to keep a 1911 in the armory that was his own issued weapon. This was left over somehow after the switch to the M9 in the 80s

I spent many an hour carrying that 1911 inside the armory  what the commander dont know wont hurt him

Haaah, more likely won't hurt YOU!
That's a beautiful M&P, congratulations.

My first handgun was one of those surplused out of Montana state prison. It was worn out and shaved lead. Good enough to maybe save my life from grizzly when fly fishing in the backcountry. A very dubious "maybe" but all I could afford when a teenager. Eventually I traded the A5 shotgun I bought in the Army to Dad for his almost new Smith Highway Patrolman. Much better bear medicine. Helluva shooter too. When I moved to Canada I left my pistols behind. My older brother kept the Patrolman and Dad had the 38 Smith. When Dad died, my older brother inherited his handguns (the A5 Light Twelve came back to me). He didn't know the 38 was mine and traded it for another gun a few years ago. No big deal. It had the lanyard hoop on butt.
