Juneteenth??

"Poor sportsmanship". Guess you have your answer about how long it will take. Probably should exclude Vietnam war dead from Memorial Day, too, since many disagree with the cause and it was a "failed" intervention.

I think you and I agree more than we don't on Vietnam. My point was meant to be that once you bring not honoring people who died fighting for what they believed in because you oppose their cause (especially 100+ years later)where do you stop? @Redleg' s quote from L.P. Hartley is spot on.

Only if you ignore facts and believe the Bolshevik propaganda

I happened to be in one of the 100 cities that had riots after the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.......later, we established a National Holiday honoring him. The more recent riots have(or will) result in a new Holiday, Juneteenth....(not sure of spelling here). I wonder what the next wave of rioting will bring? The Lincoln Memorial was vandalized, but not toppled.....thankfully. Hope it survives, and the next holiday(s) prove to be good ones..................FWB

Since two-thirds of black children live in fatherless homes, Father's Day is irrelevant so just make Juneteenth the same day.

Chicago celebrates Father's Day weekend, 104 shot, 14 killed. Was better than the last weekend in May though, 85 shot and 24 killed. Meanwhile as the protestors railed about George Floyd, the city had it's most violent day in sixty years, 18 dead in 24 hours.

I'm sure dad's were home in all of these peoples lives. Let's take the veneer of and look at the wood.

So, it sounds like it should be put in the category of 'Texas State Holiday'.

I moved to Texas in 1986 and only then did I hear of "Juneteenth".

I agree that at most, it could be a Texas thing....being it is Texas-centric.

Certainly not a National holiday.

Funny though, how selective the attitudes towards these commemorations are, regarding this Civil War.

That is some obnoxious racist shit.
When did the truth become racist?

Ignoring reality is wrong and very unhelpful.

If society focused on the fatherlessness of black homes more, perhaps the needle might move?

More likely, than if we bury that reality and refuse to mention it.

Lets see some statistics. Show me a source for your “truth”. I’ll be waiting.

And where I live, those white women are having black and hispanic babies. Look at that data at the previous post's statistic, "two or more races". For those that don't know the drill, it's impregnate one woman, then move on to others and let the mother raise them alone. A friend of mine mentored black teens in an inner city. One girl told him she had eleven half siblings. I'm sure the father to all of these children lived in all of those homes full time. Another male he mentored is presently in a prison. The statistics are there but there's money in keeping people in poverty and politicians in power.

I am embarrassed that I was unaware of Juneteenth. I think this highlights an important gap between the history we were taught as children and history that is relevant to all Americans.

Juneteenth is more Texas specific. If we are going to observe a date in which slavery ended in the U.S. then the ratification date of the 13th amendment is the more accurate date. 13th amendment was ratified on December 6 1865.

The 13th Ammendment is taught in U. S. History classes but the date is not emphasized. Just like Texas Independence is taught but even in Texas March 2nd and April 21 are not emphasized. Why Lone Star beer and Shiner beer do not pick up on those two Texas dates and turn them into one of our spring time beer drinking holidays like the Mexican beers have done for May 5th is beyond me.

This is an issue of which I feel truly unqualified to speak, so I will punt to those with more knowledge.

I like history and Google helps me with the dates when I am in a hurry ;)

If we are going to consider making holidays of the ratification of constitutional amendments relevant to all Americans, I'd like to submit 12/05/1933.

Yes, that is a date when the number of criminals in the U. S. Dropped exponentially.(y)(y)(y)

The rise in number of unmarried women having children and claiming the father is not in the home is a result of government and societal incentives. If the Uniform Payment or whatever it's called was enacted instead of all the welfare, the statistics would be much different.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
