Johannesburg to Victoria Falls Firearms Questions

I have booked a hunt in Zim for July 2015. I am flying from NYC to J-Burg and then to Vic Falls. From NYC to J-burg I am on South African Airways. From J-burg to Vic Falls I am also on South African Airways. I am looking at flights and most get into J-burg early morning and leave 2.5 hours later to Vic Falls.

1. Can I check the gun the entire way though from NYC to Vic Falls and not have to deal with it in J-Burg?

2. Have you recently done this personally or are you an outfitter/booking agent/PH in the know?

3. I assume if I can check them through giong to VIc Falls then I can check them through J-burg leaving Vic Falls???

South African Airways I know has offices here in the U.S. I'd recommend calling them as one avenue to get your answer. I'd also recommend sending an email to Henry Durrheim at riflepermits.com to see if he thinks you need a transit permit under these circumstances.

You shouldn't need a transit permit in SA unless you take possesion of your firearms. With a short layover between flights you should be able to check them thru to Vic Falls. If you have to overnight in Joberg I believe you will have to take possesion of them and go thru the permit process.

One more thing. If it is a "partner" carrier. Some of them only carry firearms with several days notice.
