If you had both a 375 and a 416

So months ago you worthless jerks didn't talk me out of purchasing a 416 so of course I'm weak-willed and I have one on the way. A Kimber Caprivi 416 Rem Mag to be precise. Let's not re-litigate the veracity of a Rem Mag vs a Rigby vs a Ruger...

But if you have both a 375 and a 416, would it change how they are set up? My 416 will be my buff rifle at this point.

Currently have a VX6HD 1-6x24 on the 375 zeroed at 100 but thinking I'll replace that with a 2.5-12.5x42 Trijicon and put the 1-6x24 on the 416. May even drop down from 300 grainers in the 375 to 260/270 grainers and zero it out a bit longer.

I'm definitely going heavy on the 416: 400 grain A-Frames is what I'm thinking.

Agree on putting that scope on the 416. I have the identical scope and put it on my Rigby 416 Big Game. I'm a big fan of RMR sights and the VX6HD 1-6X24 red dot scope works just like a Trijicon RMR when set at 1. The Rigby will be my primary buffalo rifle. My 375 H&H is a double and it has the RMR sight, so that's my two rifle battery for my trip in July 2021 with buffalo, roan and golden wildebeest on my list.
Absolutely agree on the 400 gr Federal Swift A-frames for the 416, though I also love the Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and that's the bullet I submitted to Leupold for my CDS dial on the scope. Not a lot of difference in the ballistic data between the TBBC and Swift A-frame, so I will probably use both. I use the same ammo in 300 gr. in the 375.

Now you need a Kimber Talkeetna 375 so you'll have a lightweight stainless 375. Also, your scopes will be interchangeable between your 416 and 375.

Or sell the .416 and just keep the .375? Changing the scopes would be fine. Turning the .375 into a dedicated heavy PG rifle with a lighter bullet is fine. But for the life of me, I still do not get bringing two DG calibers to Africa. Owning them? - absolutely (I have several); but schlepping both for a 7-14 day hunt? - I just don't get it. Sure, if one were landing in Mombasa for a month or two of hunting East Africa sixty years ago - bring a full battery. But not many folks on this forum are close enough friends with H.G. Wells to do that. I do get bringing a specialized PG or small animal caliber, though I have happily discovered several years ago that I can do nearly all that with a .375.

Agree with Leupold on 416 (I did). I'd consider loading 235 grain Barnes TSX for the 375. I am over 2900 fps with that and it would make a very good plains game load for long range. Still keeps the 375 as back up with some 300's and with the 2.5-12 it will be great. Still... the 416 can do it all.

I wouldn’t take both rifles at the same time, most likely. When buff is primary, would bring the 416 and something else. When buff isn’t primary, would bring the 375 and something else.

With a 375HH you don't need a 416 for anything. Pretty much duplication in my mind. Ride with the King and a couple different loads and you're good for any and all.

You should absolutely own both a 375 and 416.
However, I agree with the above that only one of the two is needed to be taken on a trip.

If you want to take two of something, take two scopes.
Higher power one for PG and lower power or Reflex sight for DG.
Two scopes is good plan anyways.

Change the scopes around and take both rifles with you on safari and shoot two Buff. One with each as is my objective in July.

I like the idea of putting the 1-6x on the .416. The 2.5-12.5x Trijicon is a great scope. A little more high end magnification than you need on a .375, but it doesn’t have a huge objective lens so you can mount it low and it has good eye relief. I’m going to put one on my .338 RUM.
I took a .416 Ruger with 400 gr Barnes and a .375 H&H with 300 gr Swifts on my first safari. As buffalo was my number one target, I always wanted to have a rifle suitable for buff in my hands. I could have taken just a .375 but felt better having the two rifles and preferred a .40 caliber. As it turned out I only used the .375 on two impala and a bushbuck. The buffalo, kudu, warthog, waterbuck, zebra, an impala and two blue wildebeest fell to the .416.

I have both a 375H&H and a 416 Rigby- the proper 416 - I have a Zeiss Victory Diavari 1-6X42 ON MY 375 and an aimpoint interchangeable with Trijacon 1.25-4 picket post reticle on the Rigby. The 416 shoots flat enough to use to 300mts with 400/410 grain projectiles flatter with 340grain projectile if you have a second scope. Just learn the trajectories.

I have done 3 trips to Africa and the 416 has gone every time, the 375 has yet to leave Aust.
