Ideal/preferred cartridge on species

How did the 257 Roberts fair on the black bear. Always thought they would be great for deer, but not bear, my seasons over lap so I carry my 308 Norma.
It was actually the quickest bear kill I've ever experienced. Dead where it stood. Bullet was a 115 gr. Nosler partition loaded to 2800 fps. Impact was broadside, high shoulder, bullet broke rear scapula, and spine, and far side scapula, and in the middle destroyed the aorta. Base of bullet exited. Shot was just over 100M. Correction - I did experience one other kill that was just as quick. It was two years ago, and a shot to the exact same spot on a smallish bear with a .375 H&H and 270 gr. Federal soft nose. Same results with a bullet twice as heavy and going nearly the same speed.

Unfortunately I’m the boring type:rolleyes:
< 200kg = 6.5x55
200kg - 600kg = 30-06
600kg - 1000kg = 300H&H
DG = 375H&H
The correct bullet is usually more important than the cartridge.

Now that I have settled on my Blaser R8 setup with a 7x64 and .375h&h combo with z8i 2,3-18x56 and 1-8x24, respectively, I thought it would be interesting to make a thread of people’s ideal or preferred cartridges for different species as listed below:
- roe (buck)
- fallow (stag)
- red deer (stag)
- wild boar
- moose
- brown bear
- black bear
- grizzly
- sable
- kudu
- eland
- buffalo

Brown Bear 500 Jeffery
Elk 500 Jeffery
Jack Rabbits 500 Jeffery

That should be enough for all the animals listed. Maybe you should take something bigger for buffalo, although with accurate shooting .375 h&h will do just fine.

However, one thing surprised me when I read the thread. Many are ready to shoot moose with a caliber of 9.3 and higher. Up to .500. Of course, moose is a large and strong animal. But it does not tolerate wounds very well. For hunting it, .30-06 and even .308 win are suitable.

For the few moose I have shot I used the cartridge 9,3x64, but some hunters used the cartridge 30-06 and the moose also went down without any problems. The cartridge 7,62x54R works also well. In my opinion is the Maral much harder to shoot, especially during the rutting season. The cartridges I used for shooting it, 9,3x64 Brenneke or 340 Weatherby Magnum, were well suited for this purpose.

One rifle one planet: .458 WIN MAG

Watched an episode of Kentucky Ballistics where he was shooting a suppressed 416 Rigby.
That’s a seriously cool African rig!
300gr TSX @ 2700 for plains game and a proper 400gr for DG.
I imagine that recoil will be lighter than a 375H&H with the suppressor.

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
