I couldn’t resist the 71

I have plenty of brass, ammo, and bullets for it. If you are interested.

Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind as I don’t reload…yet. I am, however, getting to the point that I need to think about it seriously.

I read somewhere the the short tang models may not hold their value as much as the long tang models. If true, do you know why?

Because they made few of long tang models.

:ROFLMAO: Don’t be a Dick…Bob.

Her late husband left her a list and she stuck pretty close to what he had down on paper. This is the third one I picked up from her…they’re not getting any cheaper by volume but we both did ok. ;)

And it’ll stay just as it is.
@Randy F
Got you again mate I know you would have paid a fair price unlike the companies that try and screw you over, but that's a different story for another time.
Bob.

Picked a standard model with bolt peep up in 1971 for $150 which was the going rate then. The early ones with bolt peep sight did not have receivers drill and tapped for side mounted peep sights. The option was dropped as it was expensive too make. Mine had a rattle in the butt but the stock was tight so I took the butt plate off. I found a little package of salt and one bullet. I often wonder ed if the shooter remembered too carry a screwdriver. Elmer Kieth convinced Winchester into offering a 250 grain bullet. No surprise there. Lol

Legendary Rifles! Congratulations on a fine rifle! Old Winchesters and Old Colts have a feeling all of their own!

Most standard models did not have sling swivels. Yours appears too have the Deluxe model swivels. Do you think they are factory installed?

I bought it 3 miles from the farm from a wonderful older lady who sadly lost her husband a couple of years ago. He had quite a collection.
I need to move to wherever you live in this great state. I'd love to get my mitts on a 71. It's so rare that I ever come across one and I have helped value and liquidate MANY an estate.

I was wondering the same. Pretty cool old rifle. First one I’ve seen with all the deluxe features except for checkering. There were some odd combinations at Winchester, every time I make an observation on one someone usually deservedly kicks my ass. Hahaha.

Also note... the Winchester Model 71 was the final iteration of the classic Model 1886 Winchester. It was made only in 348 WCF, which replaced the Winchester 33 WCF. It is the only rifle commercially manufactured in that caliber.

Here's a photo of my 'Deluxe Model 71 Rifle'...

According to the well-kept records of the late gentleman that owned it, it is as it left the factory. His reasoning was that this was an early enough first year of ramped up production that they were doing whatever it took to get the 71's out, including using Deluxe components as necessary.
I can't tell you where he got his information or whether it is correct, just was what was written in his notes.

Took this pic a few months back thinking a friend in WI might be interested in them for his 71. He had plenty of ammo so wasn't in need.

If you could use them, I'd be happy to pass along the shop's info, Randy.

Certainly, please PM the info. There is no such thing as too much ammo. ;)

'Nother photo. The bullets shown in the photo were made in Alaska especially for the Model 71 - heavy, bonded bullets for moose and bear.

Here is the .33 WCF (top) and the .348 WCF compared...
