I blame Bob N 35 whelen

Not that I needed another .35 Whelen, but as soon as I saw this one pop up at auction, I knew it would make a perfect match to my .458 Lott. And it does…

Built on an Oberndorf action and my preferred bolt.

The wing safety is only 2 position, which I don’t necessarily care for. Gun has to go off safe to open the bolt. Hmmmph. And the floor plate is fixed.

Not sure the barrel maker, but someone put a very nice double-recessed crown on the muzzle.

Weighs in at 9 1/2 pounds, LOP is 13 1/2” over a Pachmayr Decelerator pad; which I figured would be a tad short for me but the crosshairs come up perfectly. Scope is a Leupold VX-II, 3-9 with a fine crosshair and target dot reticle, of all things…
Trigger breaks cleanly at maybe 3 1/2 pounds. Barrel has a single standing rear sight and banded front. Looks like those were never sighted in, or they shot perfectly (rear V is not filed). The barrel is cerakoted matte black. The bolt looks like it was bead blasted to a smooth, French grey.

Looking forward to some range time with it.

Hope you like it, Bob :)

This is an awesome thread. I am going to have to buy a .35 whelen and blame bob
That’s right, it’s Bobs fault. Anytime the .35whelen gets a mention Bob comes to mind.
Kinda like the .243 Bob often gets a mention for being so passionate about these cartridges

You made a wise choice, you can never go wrong with a Whelen. Now all you need is some CFE223 and some nice 225-250 grainers and your set.
Welcome to the Whelen clan.

Why spoil a good thing by getting another 35.
The Whelen when loaded properly will do just fine.
The grand tower of power that has no fear in hunting.

Who me, I'm just a humble educator enlightening the world to the benefits and glory of the mighty Whelen.
The Whelen is like a fine wife.
Glamorous and a joy to behold and call yours, as well as bringing pleasure when you appreciate her abilities and assets.
A man only needs a fine wife and a Whelen to accomplish what life throws at him.

Ohhh… it’s not my first Whelen rodeo. I’ve got a lightweight Mauser Sporter and a stainless Ruger #1 in the arsenal. Something about the old adage …“collecting in 3s” ?

I have a good feeling this one will be a good shooter. Hopefully soon I can post a range report.

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks

hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
