Hunting Sharpes Grysbok

Where did you hunt them or where do you plan to hunt them. How many trips did it take you to get one? Just starting to research about them. Thanks for the help.

Mozambique and south Africa.

My first trip I took was to MOZ was successful on red diker and Suni but went ) for me and 1 for the grysbok. I hear my PH say he is by that rock at around 75 meters. His angle and mine were a couple feet different and I was using a double rifle so the after action was that the rock in front of hum was the same size as his body. I killed that rock exactly where I was aiming with a nice 400gr 416 solid. However a couple hours later my wife put down her first buffalo. So the hunting gods had a better plan. Did this hunt with Kwalata Safaris They are now hunting in Tanzania. There are several companies here on AH that can help with a MOZ trip.

Fast forward a year and successfully hunted mine with @MATTANJA HUNTING SAFARIS. Highly recommend Dieter's company

The last two animals I needed to finish the Tiny Ten were the Sharpe’s and suni. Both are found in Mozambique, and I got both at the Rosenfels’s Coutada.

The Sharpe’s is usually hunted at night, as mine was. You’d have to be pretty lucky (and perhaps fast as well) to find one during the day. At night, the challenge is to have them hold in the spotlight for long enough for the PH or spotter to say “male” and for you to shoot. Identification isn’t easy, as you likely know, because the horns on the male are pretty small, so anything that isn’t obviously a male is therefore by default a female!

Good luck with your research and hunt - it’s typically a fun hunt, and not an easy one.

I saw several hunting in Dande Zimbabwe. I have very little interest in taking one, but this was a good one. It’s a target of opportunity there, not a dedicated hunt.

They can be found near polokwane south africa. In my hunting with LBG we only encounter females.

I will be hunting one in the Niassa area in Mozambique. I saw a couple on my first trip there so I am sure they will be no where to be found on my second trip.

On my first African hunt I was fortunate to shoot a Common Duiker, a Klipspringer and a Sharpe’s Grysbok. I didn’t really know what they were, other than ‘little stuff’ so didn’t really appreciate how special they were. The klippie was over 5” and the Grysbok was over 2”. Only later did I learn that those were both really good.

The main things I remember about the Grysbok were Roy Vincent saying ‘I can see horns, shoot him!’ and that it was really good eating. We grilled it over an open fire and it was so good that I ate way too much and was miserable all night.

I took one in Zimbabwe in Matetsi on my first try for one. After the elephant he was my secondary focus along with Leopard. We a bunch of them including several good rams during daylight. We unsuccessfully tried to stalk this ram twice during the day and while driving back from calling hyenas he crossed the road and froze in some brush..

@AZDAVE is right about Dieter with @MATTANJA HUNTING SAFARIS having some good ones. He also has good Red Duiker. He doesn’t take many or get many permits so if you want one plan ahead.
