Hunting Outfitter in WYOMING

I was a WY resident for a decade before moving to Alaska. I have access to great elk and mule deer hunting but I have pretty much given up on getting non-resident tags to go back.

In reality, it is cheaper to go to Argentina or Romania to hunt red deer than it is to do a guided elk hunt in the Western US. You also don’t need to worry about drawing a tag.

Some food for thought-you can still get an elk tag in Wyo and some other western states, it will cost you plenty but it is still possible. It might be a once in a lifetime hunt or if you are lucky, maybe you draw two elk tags in your life in Wyo. so how hurt are you really going to be to drop $2k for a once in a lifetime tag? I know yearly points et al but if you live in a state that doesn’t even have elk, then that money spent is s good deal.
We have gotten spoiled for a couple decades—be honest about it.
In my home state of utah I have drawn one good mature bull elk tag in my life-will get
One more before I die. That’s two tags in my life as a resident! So even at twice the cost, Wyo still offers another opportunity or maybe even your only one.
When I’m in Wyoming and all I see is out of state license plates, I understand why the residents are pissed! And they aren’t getting any of that tourist money, they are just competing for the same animals. Tourist Money doesn’t trickle very far-
I reached out to several outfitters for elk in Wyo. (I have 14 points I think) the average fee was $15k for a horse pack hunt-my dream. Again honest, I can’t pay it. So my option is self guided, diy and hope for the best. If I had that kind of money I would be in africa!
Pretty hard to believe that anyplace in Wyoming is overrun with out-of-state hunters when at most the out-of state hunters can get 80% of the tags. I stuggle to see how 17% to 20% of hunters can overrun 80% to 83% of the hunters. Your comment makes zero sense and is a lot of overblown drama

Yea, I am going to Argentina in March 2025.

People will be like "You cant bring the meat home"

I don't have the time to butcher an elk myself and the money I would spend getting one done....I will just go by a side of Angus beef from a friend that raises them free-range and organic

It depends where you go. I did a fair bit of patrolling with WY G&F when I lived there. Many of the DIY non-residents pulling tags in these areas were concentrated along the roads. Few ever got half a mile in. You developed a pretty jaded view of NR hunters checking these guys. And yes, it did seem like the bulk of ‘hunters’ you checked were NR.

As a gross generalization, residents tended to have better established camps and the means to get away from the road system.
