A question for all you taxidermists out there - How long can I store my skins before mounting?

What is the best method;

Keep them salted in a dry place?

Have them soft tanned and store in a cool, dry place?

Have them wet tanned and store frozen?

I am no where close to finished hunting around the world and am waiting a few more years to build a trophy room. I don’t want to make the mistake so many of my friends have made by building too early and running out of room.

Tan them ASAP. wet tan or dry tan. Dry tan dehydrate them and freeze them.
I have mounted frozen skins over 15 years old.

Leave dry salted.....you'll bugs and if you leave salted skin to long tanning will not be good , salting is a temporary measure for transport only they are not preserved by simply salting.

Tan and leave in cool dry place...you'll have acid rot leather in a few years , leather is organic and breaks down, that is why glue is used in taxidermy to keep the hide from falling apart.

Wet tanned and Frozen.....PERFECT.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
