home libraries, please show

Here is my little corner in our office. I lost a bunch of books during one of our PCS moves, and then when I got divorced. We have a detached garage with a loft, and my wife wants to turn that space into a library. Now that I'm retired, I may have to get on that project. LOL!!!

Nice! I have a gunner's quadrant (also an Iraqi one) and a set of graphical firing scales for the 8" howitzers with which I first served, but would love to find an aiming circle. Laying a battery at 0200 on a cold and foggy night was high adventure.
Ugh. I feel triggered! TFOO-ULU / SADULU

My library is scattered across the two buildings of our place. It is one of my most beloved things. When we bought the home a dozen years ago and did extensive remodeling, I almost did a formal library, but I like great bookcases also.

This little Regency bookcase is special and it contains a collection of Theodore Roosevelt's works signed by the President.

A collection signed by TR is a real treasure and certainly a highlight. I have a copy of East of the Sun, West of the Moon signed by Kermit Roosevelt.

I have quite a few signed works, a number of which that are quite personal. The only subject for whom I stood in line as an unknown was for Margaret Thatcher's "The Downing Street Years." I was an active duty promotable LTC at the time (1993) holding a War College Fellowship at Georgetown Univ. She was having a book signing just off campus. We chatted for quite a while as she signed copies. I remain a huge admirer.

Nice signed works gents.

I reckon the only signed books I have are Rigby Resurrection, Shooting The British Double Rifle and Wato.

I should get Geoff to sign my copy of the Woodleigh Loading Manual one of these days. ;-)

Received some special additions to the library today - from the family of a friend who sadly passed away a fews months back. Nice to have some of his books in my modest collection to remember him by.

Condolences for the loss of your friend.

My library is no match for the quality of those on this thread, nor is it a match for cleanliness and organization, but this is my basecamp every day. I've been a collector of sporting books since I was ten years old but sadly I have way more books than I have bookshelves. Most are in storage.

My library is pretty narrow in diversity:

Wingshooting, Gunsmithing, and Gunmaking
Flyfishing
Western Religion
Dog training
Ornithology and Natural History
Falconry
Cigars

But lets be honest, aren't those the best topics to argue about anyway?

I like the racks/shelves above the window

I’m liking the re purposed cabinet View attachment 727611

It was custom built as a Gun cabinet. What makes it unique is that it holds guns horizontally so you can enjoy them, rather than vertically where you don't really see much of the gun. These were made by the Amish somewhere in Wisconsin and were retailed by Borofka furniture in the Twin Cities. I didn't buy it new, I found it on FB marketplace out of Chicago years ago.

Those are pullman car shelves as used on trolley cars and rail at the turn of the century. Found them on clearance at Restoration Hardware. I thought it was a way to get more space in the room while putting traditional luggage cases on a rack like they would have had during the era when people traveled to shoots by train.

Nothing that compares to you fine folks, but I’ve got six of these. Top row is double-stacked and as you can see I still have to stack books on the floor.

Baxter, mine looks more like your situation. Boxes in two barns maybe even in the 3rd barn. And 3 rooms in the house.

We moved too often in the military to stock a nice library. We carried some books base to base. But most were donated or thrown away.

My wife switched to digital platforms years ago. I still prefer paper books. Maybe I’ll start to organize and shelve them.

This is an example of a book that traveled with us and was not sentenced to life in a box. It was my Great, Great grandfather’s “Practical Stock Doctor”

@baxterb - nice

and I wish bottled ice-cold carbonated black beverages were still 5c.

Given like everyone else space becomes a premium I have now only kept a book series of my favorite authors such as all the books by Ruark and Kapstik, etc. These are books I read over and over with great joy!

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
