For Sale
Heym 88b Safari in .458 Winchester Magnum. The rifle is in excellent condition with only a few minor wood scuffs. This is NOT a PH model but a Safari model with gold accents and engraved. This double rifle shoots exceptional and is very well regulated. Ejectors are in time and work perfectly. Barrels are 24-15/16" long and the length of pull to the front trigger is 14-3/4" over a 1" recoil pad. 88b's are no longer in production and a new 89b will run you about $30k base price and are about three years wait time.

$18,000 plus FOB insured shipping to your FFL or you can pick up in GA. I could also make arrangements to meet you in parts of NC, SC, FL, AL or TN depending on the drive distance. PM me with any questions.

Has this gun been offered for sale on other sites?

A many of you know I have virtually the same Heym 88B in .458 Winchester that I've shot over 500 times. For each practice shot I've recorded the load, velocity, and impacts at 50 or 100 yards.

I no nothing about this particular rifle or the seller. I have no connection whatsoever.
That stated, if anyone wants to know about owning and shooting a West German made Heym 88B in the might .458 Winchester, feel free to contact me via direct message or phone if you have my number.

FYI; I also own a Krieghoff Classic and Blaser S2, and have owned a Chapuis and two Merkel double rifles.

Nice rifle! Bring it by the house and we’ll give it a test drive! Hahaha!
What load were these regulated with?

Total newbie to double rifles (doing research for my first African hunt) what did regulated mean?

Simply means the load utilized to get the barrels shooting close together and for filing sights.

Thank you. Basically finding the round the rifle likes?

Precisely. If one knows and can show a target and a recipe, you’re good, you can order custom ammo or make your own. If unknown, it could be $1200, it could be $4000 to have a load developed or in worst case, break the barrels apart, resolder the regulating wedge, reblue them, etc.

for this asking price. A real target showing the accuracy and regulation should be expected. Not a test target. But real life target with a bullet and powder still available.

Or it should go to JJ for exam and regulation with an agreement on who is paying for it.

Being a Heym it should be easily regulated with available ammo

It weighs between ten and eleven pounds. Currently, I do not have access to a digital scale, however I did weight it a long time ago and remember it being over ten but less than eleven. It is the proper weight for a stopping rifle of this caliber and power.

I wonder how hard it would be to make it a 458 Lott.......?

Most Heym's are regulated with Hornady ammo. I had the factory test targets when I bought my 88B in .500 NE. It did not disappoint.

It would be impossible, or at least prohibitively expensive for zero benefit. Double rifles are time capsules, forever trapped ballistically to the ORIGINAL load for the caliber, usually dating back 100 years or more. You cannot make the load faster, you cannot make the load slower, you cannot alter the cartridge to create a different pressure curve, you cannot alter the gun's muzzle rise as it would alter the trajectory as well.

In the case of a 458 Win Mag it is trapped in 1956, expecting a load under 60,000psi, travelling at 2450fps (from a 28" barrel, probably 2300-2350 real world), launching a 400gr soft or solid. That load will kill everything on the planet cleanly with the right bullet construction.

On the other hand, drilling the chambers out to make it a 458 Lott or 460 weatherby does absolutely nothing, the gun still wants a 400gr bullet at under 60000psi moving at about 2300fps real world.

If you want flexibility to load heavy/light bullets and to use dozens of powders, you want a bolt gun, not a double rifle. You want a double rifle if you're hunting dangerous game and want to put two good shots into an animal near instantaneously.

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
