Heym 88B High Demand?

Recently I have had multiple people and some dealers throwing very high numbers at me for my Heym 88B in .500NE.

Prices have been so high I am considering it. Does anyone know why the sudden high demand for the Heym?

One dealer said there is big price increases and there is a 2-3yr backlog of orders and mainly on the jumbo actions. Also he said there was a rumor that Heym is considering cutting the 88B production and just having the 89B.

I am considering selling mine but does anyone know if there is truth to this??

The wait time is real and any fun being delivered today is subject to significant tariffs. Combined with the lack of guns for sale on the secondary market I would say they are definitely going to command a premium if sold today.

I don’t know exactly what that number is but I would say that it would be a good time to be selling one if someone had one they weren’t planning to use.

I posted a couple of 3 weeks ago that i thought the Shakari price point for the US is over $100k and probably closer to $120k. A new Heym is probably $40k - $50k I believe, with similar options. Both are a multi-year wait. If that is the case, I think Heym has the pricing umbrella (WR and H&H are much higher) from Rigby to raise pricing. Used Heyms simply do not trade for $20k any more. I think they'll be $30k in the next year or two.

Given that these guns frequently aren't shot much, there is a lifetime of use plus another in most of these guns if properly cared for.

I just found a 2026 price list after digging and my gun with upgrades is $46,500 landed and they are giving a 5% swing with tarrifs or exchange rate. And 2-3yr is definitely real.

I have had 2 dealers offer me in the low 30'sk range.. I guess if someone wants one now then they just don't worry about $$

I sure wish I had bought up all the 88B that used to routinely sell for around $17K. Sounds like it would have been a sound investment

No doubt, there is nothing on the market in .470 or .500

Yes because all the ones on gunsinternational are Champlain (George Caswell) and they are SOLD. He sold all of them well over a year ago and continues to pay and list them for advertising... The only one on the market is the one on here the .450NE. Has a lot of barrel wear and plain jane for 24,500.

Also the large jumbo action starts with the .470

Holy moly 40K for a 88B or even 30 K …that will get by you a nice vintage British double and perhaps two excellent safaris

Reason - marketing plus supply and demand, hype and few things as part of strategy of Heym or for matter any successful Doubles maker.
Roughly 4 years back there was a 500 ne for sale at Gordy for around 20 K or so had much nicer wood. Prices have increased but certainly not doubled

Some economics professors (and maybe am MBA professor or three) would suggest Heym raise prices until they find a better equilibrium in wait times. 10-22% increase a year of $40-45k...then it has a 6 handle on a mew one and that will still be half a Rigby.

Who knows...maybe I am wrong.

Another sidebar: I know a handful of folks that prefer the 88 to the 89. They say it is beefier. @Wildwillalaska might have an opinion but the folks i speak of really prefer the 88b.

Well, they are a very very good rifle. And Mark Sullivan also told me the same thing about Heym planning to cease production of the Model 88B in the near future.

I don’t think 30+k is unreasonable in today’s market.

Yeah you could get a vintage British but a lot of guys would prefer the modern heym. Not me mind you. But there aren’t as many 500s n vintage British. And really there aren’t a ton of vintage on the market that haven’t been messed with.

The double market is strong for sellers at the moment. It hasn’t alway been and won’t always be. Cycles and all that.

I heard that as well, The 89 is slimmed down to feel like a British Double.

Multiple WR have been sold at Gordy’s this year and the starting price was 225k. You should see the ones that didn’t make it out into the public space.

@Hornedfrogbbq the Shikari price depends what you have done option wise. There are still some to be had for under $100k. There were also some for $250k+ but it included jumping the line.

An old British Double will never hold up to the pounding of what a Heym will take without issues.
