Hey guys, how's it going? My name is John

Welcome welcome welcome

Welcome to AH John!

I'm just a Pennsylvanian hillbilly with a dream of hunting cape buffalo with a lever action and surviving to tell the story.
Good plan!
Go for it!
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum.

As we are a forum of enablers, and as you have already been greater by a few. I'm sure there will be others along to assist in making your dream a reality.

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to AH

Hi John. Welcome aboard.

I have a Marlin GBL. I have killed 2 large adult cow buffalo (financial considerations). 2 shots, 2 dead buffalo, both in about ten seconds. Handloads using 325 grain Cutting Edge brass solids. A .45-70 works just fine for buffalo, as long as one understands its limitations and works within that. They will not be my last two, and there is a bull in my future with that rifle.

Greetings capebuffalodream (John),

Khomas Highland Hunting and Fishing Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

The Ruger #1 is technically a lever action, albeit holding only a single round.
Nonetheless, it is a lever action for sure.
Get one in any of the following calibers: .375 H&H or .450/400 or .458 Winchester (or Lott) and hunt that buffalo.

On this topic, I have sometimes wondered why Ruger never chambered that excellent rifle in .470 Nitro.
Seems like that would have been a natural choice for their #1 Tropical Rifle.
I had one in .375 H&H and shot my first ever caribou with it, about 35 years ago.
The Ruger No 1 is in my opinion, an under priced treasure.

Anyway, I will stop jabbering here.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog (Paul).
