I was in Bass Pro Shot today. They had some Legend 350 ammo in stock. The ammo brands were Winchester and Herter's. The ammo was 180 gr, soft point bullets. I compared the two brands and they looked identical. The salesperson told me that Herter's is the BPS house brand now. I asked him who made the Herter's ammo and he told me Winchester.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of Herter's ammo?

I have a couple boxes of 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, 140 gr soft point (or 139 grain, have to look).
I've tried it in a Ruger NO. 1 and a Sauer XT 100.
At 100 yards, from a bench, 3 shots, the Ruger is about 1.5" group, the Sauer just over an inch.

I shoot their 16 gauge shells a lot it is dirty and cheap but my shotgun shoots it well.

I bought a case of their 12guage 2 3/4” shells for making noise with clays. It isn’t powerful enough to cycle a semi.

I didn’t even know they were still in business, I use to order from and get Herters catalog every year but that was in the 80’s.

I bought some shot shells at Cabelas with the Herter's name. I would guess it is a resurrection of the name and not the original company.

I've got some herters 30.06 bullets, some 150 and some 180 grain. I haven't shot them but a few of mine have bent tips . Obviously I'm not gonna shoot those ones lol
From what I understand, basspro/ cabelas owns the name Herters and has Winchester load ammo for the store . I read that somewhere I think lol

I can remember the days in the 60's and 70's when Herter's had an awesome, thick mail order catalog and had quality merchandise. Started business in 1893- located in Waseca, MN. Then Cabelas bought Herter's in 1981. But, that was then.

I think today it is nothing more than a "remembrance brand name" name.

I have shot a lot of the 115gr 9mm stuff. I haven't had any issues with my glocks, m&p's or Hk's with the stuff.

cup and core bullets, they always go off when i pull the trigger

A couple years ago I ordered a couple flats of Herter's 16 gauge cartridges from Cabela's. When they arrived I found that bout half of the cartridges had water damage - rust and degraded cartons. After a brief wrangle with Cabels'a on the phone they credited me half the price.

That was the LAST time I bought Herter's, or any, ammo from Cabela's.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
