Hello everyone,
I'm Daniel a hunter from Croatia with a long standing wish for an African safari. I've been eyeing the forum for a while and decided to join. I am currently on the hunt for a new rifle looking for a do it all rifle/safari rifle. Hoping to get insights and new knowledge.

Welcome to the site. Good luck in your search. I think you should buy multiple rifles for your hunts!

Hi Daniel!
So, now we make two Croatians on the forum! Welcome to the club!
(I was so far three times on safari, and planning number 4)
Drop me a pm, should you need some info, from Croatian perspective of hunting in Africa.

Here are my two most active threads,

For patriotic purposes one thread is Croatia presentation.
And for forum members my last hunt report. Eland was my hardest hunt!
When I think about my african trophies, I think only about Eland.

For African rifle, there are several choices, and it is not the same if you are once visiting client, multiple visiting client, or PH on the ground.

First time visitor may opt for rental camp rifle. To be considered.
Pro - no hassle with guns on airports. Easy travel.
Con - ammunition. camp rental rifle will be generally ok, but ammunition can be of the cheapest locally available type which can lead to wounding of animals, especially in fast magnum calibers (I have seen it)

My personal view for clients rifle is: for client beginner, and advanced is bolt action rifle, scoped.
There are two ways of thinking, blaser R8, or mauser 98 platform.
Most probably any other rifle will work, but serious safari hunters converge and evolve on these two types on the end. Once a bolt action rifle is digested, next step will be in the realm of double rifle. But lets leave it for now.

Choice of calibers.
For plains game anything from 30-06 till 338 win mag, with golden middle of 300 win mag.

For DG plus PG, 375 H&H (my choice)

For serious repetitive African hunter, that hunts PG and DG, rifle and calibers are a difficult choice. How many rifles will need? Is double rifle needed, etc. Two rifle battery, three rifle battery, etc

Generally speaking, for a client do it all safari rifle will be bolt action in caliber 375 H&H.
You will hunt something of tiny ten, middle size antelopes and large antelopes, and later get to buffalo or tuskless elephant eventually. All with 375. (I mean, if you are poor like me, and cannot afford trophy exportable elephants)

Ammunition Norma swift a frame 300 grain, bonded partition bullet, or norma solid 300 grain for elephant or for tiny ten to keep skin not damaged.
There are other good ammunitions, but this is still available in our small country. everything else, will be hard to get.

As mentioned on the beginning, drop me a pm, any time.
Welcome to the forum!

Forgive me if this is the incorrect area, I signed up to this forum just now because I wanted to be on the list to purchase a copy of your autobiography. Please feel free to pass my information along to whomever is selling. Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
I like the Tillie in my picture. They are supposed to fit loose (2 fingers inside hat band), have mesh for cooling, and hold their shape after washing.
