Ok have 2027 SA buff hunt coming up. Planning on taking a bolt rifle and my Chapuis 470 NE. Should I put both rifles in one case? Also which brand of gun case do you recommend.

I've taken that exact combination to S.A. and Zim 3 times now. I use a Pelican 1750 and remove the center foam. Pack both rifles in soft cases. Bolt removed from the magazine rifle. Scope and red dot on each accordingly. Also, pack cleaning rod, spare case locks and a few assorted rifle cleaning and maintaining accessories as allowable to get the package to weigh just under 50 lbs. Has worked well for me on all trips. Although, they did manage to lose my gun case and luggage on my return trip last December. All turned out well as the gear arrived at my door 2 days later (albeit, some minor things missing from my gear bag). I was thankful to have my rifles back in hand.
Good luck with your trip.

There are lots of options and folks can prove pretty opinionated as to their own, but have to admit most of the companies making heavy duty rotomolded plastic cases seem to serve folks really well. I was traditionally a SKB case fan for years and years, both for rifles/shotguns/bows…and still think they are great, but last 8-10 years I leaned towards Pelican Protector (also possibly known as their classic) cases. I have one 1750 case that I have no idea how many trips it’s made, and looks pretty beat up from the purposeful mishandling that some baggage folks show rifle cases in rural Alaska where non-local hunters are disfavored. But the interior and contents have always proven safe and snug.

With custom foam inserts you can have made, to the modular systems that are becoming popular, there really are so many options. You can also search for closed cell foam sheets and case number on Amazon to get blank replacement sheets to cut your own if you want. That’s what my plan was for a trip this last October, thinking I’d take my bolt gun out of the stock and fit both my Rigby and Heym into a 1700 case. Bit ambitious. Still think it would have worked, but would have been pretty tight in places, and ultimately decided to roll with a 1750. I think if taking your barreled action out of the stock, and traveling with a double, the 1720 is perfectly sized. I had the 1700 closed cell foam sheet that I used to house the double, and the softer factory foam I’d already cut and used for previous trips, and just redneck’d them together. Amazon has a company that sells the foam sheet sets with high density for the 1700, 1720, and 1750, all cheap.

Anyway, this is how my last minute change of direction turned out…ugly but worked perfectly.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
