Took this photo of cattle on a ridge at sunset. I was setting up camp for the night so that I was well placed to shoot wild dogs the next morning. Wild dogs in packs will take calves and weaker adult cattle. The owners of this 40,000 acre property had shot 117 dogs in 12 months. The government bounty of $150 per dog indicates the problem wild dogs are causing in many parts of Australia.

This artesian bore has been running non stop for 115 years. The water flows out under it's own pressure at 43 degrees celcius, and then runs along many kilometres of open channels to water sheep and cattle. It is a great way to finish a days hunting, and get ready for the same at night. This property is 65,000 acres and 3 hours north of home. Always good to have a mate on board!

A wild dog pup taken on a 220,000 acre property. Looks harmless and cute, but they grow into very smart and aggressive hunters. This region used to be all merino sheep until the wild dogs came. It's now all cattle country, and even that can be challenging when large numbers of wild dogs build up.

Pigs love wheat stubble (i.e. after harvest) as there is usually grain that fell to the ground during the harvesting process. This wild pig was taken on a 10,000 acre wheat farm 2 hours from home.

This wild dog taken at dusk on a 40,000 acre property 11 hours from home. The property owner will skin the dog from nose to tail, take the scalp into the local council (county), and then collect $150 per scalp. Farmers typically wait until they have a few scalps before going to town, which is 90klm away. Note the printing on the spare tyre.

This wild pig taken by my son James with our new 308 and zeiss scope (notice the white lancruiser in the background). This was our first major hunt together, and one we talk about often. It involved staying at 3 large scale grazing properties (known as 'Stations') owned by clients . We shot many wild pigs, some wild goats, and one wild dog. The pig in this photo actually charged us, even though he had been hit at a distance in the hind quarters. All we could see was the grass moving as he ran towards us. Thankfully I had a my shotgun with 9 pellet buck shot to pull him up. Love it!

Couldn't think of a better picture for this contest! What do you think?
