Adhesive on rings ?

I have been having some trouble with a couple of my scopes walking, both are Swarozski's. I am not a novice when it comes to mounting and truing scopes or lapping rings for that matter. I have inch pound wrenchs. 18 to 20 inch pounds is not getting it. Is there an adhesive that you can use on the ring to stop this problem.

I know that Schmidt - Bender talks about a scope adhesive on the rings and I believe Swarovski does also.

I hate to have to over torque and pinch a tube, or stress the tube.

Try the 10 minute araldite. Just a smear on the inside of the rings. It will hold any scope in any mount firm.

And when the time comes it’s also easily removed from both rings and scope tube with a few scratches of your thumb nail

Forget super glue or Loctite Red/Blue. You need a controlled-slip compound. The most well-known product is Loctite / Vibra-Tite VC-3, This is the gold standard. It's often sold as "Roc Lok" or similar brand names in gun shops. It's a gel-like substance that dries to a flexible, non-permanent film.

Liquid electric tape - Morris at Alaskan Arms turned me into this and it works.

Vertically split mounts are more prone to slipping in my experience, so I have avoided them for years. The best option I have found is some rosin in the rings. Lightly dust both halves of the ring, torque as normal and the scope should stay put.

Ah man, that shouldn't be happening. Especially with the brands you are using. Might I ask under what conditions during shooting they are slipping? Did you lap your rings? I have never used anything between the tube and the ring, on big calibers I actually put a drop of fingernail polish at some un-noticeable junction on the scope and ring, for quick reference---it will chip if it moves. 20 inch lbs sounds about right? Are you sure the components are completely oil free when mounting.

There is one situation that I have had this happen that I completely stopped doing, and that is using a lead sled. A heavy recoiling rifle that isn't allowed to move and have free recoil will cause this, and if you are using heavier and larger scopes, from my experience that's where slip happens.

This is what I starting using after Morris told me about it when I got my AA rings.

FYI - I used it to mount scopes on both my and a buddies .375H&H rifles with Leupold VX5 ZL2 2-10x44 scopes.

My rifle has AA mounts and my buddies are Warn Verticle.

I lapped both sets of rings, cleaned the inside of rings with lighter fluid, painted the inside of the rings with a THIN layer of the liquid tape and let dry for 10min and mount scope per torque spec.

Neither scope has budged.

I use Burris with inserts on 1" and 30mm rings but on my 34mm Seekins, I use RingTrue Tape. Haven't had one move either way. YMMV but the rings that split on the top are IMHO, the worst rings to use on any scope.
