FN Trigger Adjustment

So I finally got my FN 300H&H out to sight it in, and the trigger pull is borderline unsafe. I pulled it apart today to take a look at it, and I can’t seem to find any info online about the trigger. If anyone can help me out how to make the pull a bit heavier and add some take up(if possible) I would appreciate it. Here are some pics

Or would a Timney M98FN be a drop in job? The rifle already has a side swing safety installed.

Timney is a drop in…

That’s the very first thing I do with all of my M98’s… commercial or military… I install a timney…

Takes just a couple of minutes…

+1 for the M98 Timney trigger swap. I have an FN 1952 in .270 Winchester, and putting in a Timney for an M98 action made a world of difference. It was pretty close to pure drop-in; I just had to do the slightest bit of inletting on the sides of the hole in the stock where the trigger passes through, and I also had to take the slightest bit of metal off the bottom tip of the trigger so it would pass freely over the floor of the trigger guard.

PS - that stock for your FN looks very much like the stocks on my Browning Safari Grades. I knew that the non-Browning FN's were very similar, but didn't realize they were so identical right down to the checkering pattern.

The one I have is called the Timney Featherweight M98-B, but you should probably confirm which is the right model with Timney. My dad bought this one from Brownells several years ago, and here is a picture of the label on the back of the package, in case that helps you. This one does not have a safety because my rifle has the wing safety on the bolt shroud.

The trigger in your FN is an aftermaket Dayton-Traister. Or an exact copy of it. I have two.

I have the only featherweight I could find north of the 49th on its way. But when I’m back home next week I’ll try and adjust the trigger I have and see how it turns out.

As others hsve said, the FN is such an accurate rifle. It deserves more than the military two-stage rubbish it comes out with. I have a .250 Savage and 7x57 and use Timney in both.

As @Clodo Ferreira pointed out, it’s a Dayton trigger. No idea how it stacks up to a Timney, but I will play with it tomorrow. I’ve never pulled a Timney so I don’t know what a “good” trigger is. All I know is I like a bit of take up before it breaks.

Take up is adjustable on the featherweight.. but it will come with very little as a factory setting (like next to none.. its pretty close to "icicle" type of a break..).. you'll also get very little overtravel..
