I have been to Rovaneimi the hometown of Santa Clause in Europe before in June of 2025, but never been there in the winter. Sow we flew out last Saturday and flew back this morning.

Stayed in the same cabin, did all the same Santa Clause oriented tourism stuff with our girls and had a nice time.

Had some problems with the rental car. It was a new BMW X5 hybrid. It sucked. Spun it out on some ice and that caused it it loose power steering. Then it froze shut at -9 C and wouldn't track straight.

Swapped it out for a Mazda CX5 and it was a peach.

We didn't have enough ice to ice fish or enough snow to hunt on snowmobiles so we did tourist stuff and had a good time. I missed a hazel hen the only game animal I saw with the weather so crazy.

I would love to do a Finland trip someday just haven't made it a priority. Likely fishing as most of the hunting is more costly there.

My great grandparents emigrated from Kvevlax in the 1920s.

I did look at a seal hunt as a possibility

I've only been to three places in Finland. Turku, Tampere, and Helsinki (2X). I really like Helsinki. Once on the train from Turku to Tampere I met a guy that worked for Valmet, at that time the owner of SAKO. Talked guns, mainly how I wanted one. Another time, on the train from St. Petersburg to Helsinki, the guy across form me was a hunter and we talked about SAKO guns. He opined that best SAKO ever made was the L61R, and everything after that was resting of the L61R laurels.

Glad you had a great time in Finland.

Helsinki is very nice..I recommend staying at hotel Kämp..

I don't know anything of fashion. But Helsinki is a fashion place. My wife spent thousands there on every trip on clothes. She love their style.

Not a lot of drama like we have with immigration in Finland. I hope it stays that way.

Sweden is having a tough time. France and Britain are kind of getting lost.

Right on the L61R, I still have mine in .338WM

I was invited at the Sako factory in Riiihimai, in 1996, their Diamond anniversary.

We hunted Loppi/Salmio and Loppi/Topeno

Sako 75 was being introduced, and I was gifted one in 30.06

Had a great time.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
