Finally getting a shot at an elephant with a bow!!

I used the heavy bow and arrow for the hippo. 82 lbs and a 1250 grain arrow.

Will use that for the croc as well. Found a very nice croc today but could not get him to the bait. Must have been 80 years old. Super ugly and scarred. Will be a very special trophy if I can get him
I don’t think I have ever seen a handsome looking crocodile but my experience is limited.

If you ever wondered how thick hippo skin is…

Thank you. I think I have enough safaris completed now to do a book. Not sure how well those sell these days, but I am now at 21 of the African 29 and I figure it would take enough safaris for 2-3 books, depending on how the hunts go. I still need to go to Tanzania and Cameroon, which I expect would provide some excellent stories.

Do you guys think that would be worth my efforts?
May not be financially worth the effort but for personal satisfaction and posterity may be.

There is a very affordable way to do it called Storyworth that we got my parents. Now we have books of stories and pictures of their lives

Congratulations for sure on getting it done

I bought almost all available books from amazon about safari.

Hemingway wrote Green Hills after only one safari.

Robert Ruark made his name after one safari, with one book (Horn of the Hunter), After that he followed his passion both in hunting and in writing. But one book and one safari made his name

Modern safari tradition started after Roosevelt's one safari on which he wrote a book.
You have a great style of writing. You kept me glued till last moment with this story.

So, without a second thought, do it. Besides, there are not many authors about modern safari even today.

I have tried a half dozen times to upload the actual elephant photo, both from my phone and my laptop and they have timed out or uploaded 100% and then not given me the ability to insert them. I am getting frustrated by this elephant even still, lol. Apparently my file sizes have been too big. Is that my euphemism now? I have big, um, file sizes...

I checked google earth with the coordinates and measured distances. The elephant traveled 99 yards after it was shot until it died. What I find crazy is that it didn't run. It just walked a little and didn't feel so good. None of the other elephants even knew anything happened. The arrow looks brand new aside from some blood on it. No damage to the broadhead whatsoever.

So, since it's not exportable, does that mean you can't even take a little skin with you? I've seen an arm guard made from elephant scrotum that looks awesome.

This is exactly what being sneaky with a bow does. They get stung, don't know what happened and quickly bleed to death. Quietly and no drama.

Well hunted and Congratulations!

Where did the arrow hit? One lung? Artery probably?

Excellent! I’ve found that if you screenshot your photos you want to upload, it will reduce the photo size and they’ll upload much more quickly.

Really well done. It is a pleasure following a tale well written. It is also good to see a truly accomplished bow hunter doing this sort of hunt in free range Africa rather than sticking a hippo or crocodile in someone's backyard pond.

Great Adventure.

I'm visiting with John Henry in Sept before going on to Zim with Wayne for leopard. Hitting two of your trusted PHs in one trip

I didn’t stay for an autopsy but based on speed of death, I assume I got the spleen. Will do some more analysis of the video when I get home.

Congratulations on a succefull hunt! You greasted a lot of anxiety and antisapation for a lot of us. Great story and writing.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
Two African Safaris Hunted South Africa both times,
