I thought this was a cool little introduction to the sport. I know nothing about it, but I am fascinated by it. I would love to spend a day in the field with one of these amazing creatures.

Anyone here a Falconer? Any good stories, pictures or videos?

No pictures, but spent 25 years in the sport. Great way to not achieve your full professional potential while spending fortunes on lodging and skipping work.

:)

It’s amazing and honestly more fun than all other forms of hunting and fishing combined, it’s just impractical unless you have infinite time or infinite money (pick one) and access to significant game every other day, half the year.

theres a reason its called the sport of kings.

Awesome! Fortunately I don’t have to take care of one. I have a great horned owl and a Cooper’s hawk the frequent my acre and take a rabbit now and then. Raptors are magnificent!

There's been somebody in my country doing it. Looks like the first hurdle was getting a falcon. He bought one from England and managed to get the paperwork to keep it legally.
Very careful work to raise and train the falcon. Feeding it just right. And you need to be able to sprint the length of a football field, apparently.

A friend of mine and fellow hunter had an eagle, fascinating creature !

But as Rookhawk said, you need a lot of time and money, which he didn´t have, and had to give it up.

The daily upkeep and maintenance. (n)

The wife and I were able to spend some time at a falconry for a half day when we were touring Ireland. It was pretty amazing mingling with them. I could see how someone would get hooked on it! Here are a few photos:

I was getting into it... didnt even take my test for falconers license... not did I even look for a sponsor yet...

I realized for I could get very far that I couldn't spare the time on a bird like that. As much as I dreamed of it for so long... it just wasnt going to happen.

So yes, as mentioned... if you have a ton of spare time...

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
