After seeing the W C Scott .600NE Shotgun thread back up, reminded me of the RIA auction with another obvious Shotgun Conversation that was once owned by Elmer Keith !

You really gotta pay attention to the verbiage used....... Key word in listing is "Attributed"

Then the description......
"The consignor states that this rifle was bought from legendary American shooter and writer Elmer Keith, who was also known to be a connoisseur of fine double rifles."

"The consigner states" = We have no documentation what so ever, but the guy selling this swears he got it from Elmer Keith.

If you believe that, I got an ocean front condo in Tulsa for sale and if you pay cash, I'll throw in the Alamo for free!

Might be fun to own a [emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] H&H with mallards engraved on the frame though lol…

I agree that I do not think they are putting a lot of value of that “provenance” based on the estimate.

They do miss some of these pieces of provenance though. A few years ago I bought Keith’s 577 NE Rigby Webley Farquarson from RIA. It was also previously owned by author John Ross. There was zero mention from RIA about the lineage but a good friend of mine tipped me off. I didn’t “steal” it but bought it for a fair price for a 577 Rigby Farquarson (they only made 2 or 3). Turned out it was consigned by John Ross’ daughter so it was not difficult to track or trace the provenance but RIA just did not bother to do it.

It has an odd sleeved on front sight that was not “Rigby” and I was afraid someone else added it. However, I bought a copy of the G&A ammo magazine where Keith describes this rifle and he details how he had the sights altered and why. That was fun to read it all explained.
