Well folks, I am raising the white flag with my open sights on two Sodia combo guns. The sights are too "fine" and my older eyes just struggle with what used to be second nature - getting the rear and front sight on amd seeing the target well at 50 plus yards.

I know NECG has the mounts and ability to put them on the guns. Anyone done anything similar? Both the guns have a 12ga barrel so i do want the ability to remove the scope i would put on either.

Thoughts? I have some claw mounts on a drilling that work great but that is probably too expensive a solution for these weapons.

The prices will be comparable (expensive) with either Pivot or Claw mounts in your circumstances. I recommend you send the guns to NECG to do the work. You're looking at about $1500-$2000 per gun becuase they have to fit a saddle to hold the pivot bases on a break action weapon, then blue them, etc.

The advantage of the pivot mounts is you can change scopes and rings. You may want a pivot mount RMR and a pivot mount scope for your particular weapons.

I would remind you that combo guns and drillings are illegal for hunting in most US States due to the silly laws that say you can't have a shotgun with you when hunting big game, can't have a rifle with you when hunting grouse or turkey, etc. You're subject to fines if a warden decides to hold you to the letter of the law.

You might be better putting all this money into different guns and leaving the combo guns as they are.

@Hornedfroggbbq: Call JJ or Todd. They can take care of you. Depending on where you are in Texas, you can do a short road trip and drop them off at their shop.

Safe shooting

EAW pivot mounts are not $1200-1500.

EAW Pivot mounts are $700-$900. However, when putting them on the rib of a break action gun, that is expensive. You must machine out the rib, drift in a pivot base, etc, etc. It's not cheap.

There are hundreds of options, post photos and I can send you some options.

Or contact Optics Trade in Slovenia, they have 99% of the gun world covered in mounts.

They probably have something that would work. They are the largest optics retail company and reloading company in Europe.

You can also email Triebel and ask them what they have. They don't normally sell to us in Europe retail, you have to go through a dealer for their specialist stuff.

Post photos, or email Optics Trade.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
