Does your Children participate in conservation as much as you do?

I have been thinking, all of us hunters and fishermen started somewhere. Either learned it from you father or read a book about the great outdoors of hunting and fishing. Now we all know why we hunt and fish and to each it's for a different reason, but does your child or children participate in hunting and fishing as a conservation tool just as much as you do.

Please post pictures or video clips of children fishing, hunting, target shooting or any related picture.

DJ. 5 years old when he shot his first animal. This young Bushbuck male was shot for Leopard bait. We had a permit to Hunt a problem Leopard on a Cattle ranch.

My children are all adults now, but 2 of them participated often. My son hunted pheasants and deer with me. He also created 11 acres of turkey habitat (clearing land and planting 10,000 tree seedlings) as his Eagle Scout project.

One of my daughters still goes trout fishing with me.

All 3 of the kids and their spouses are going with my wife and me to the Boundary Waters for a canoeing trip next week.

Absolutely I share the outdoors with my daughter. She loves being out and about with me. She just started last year bird hunting and will be hunting deer this year. We have a family safari planned for 2017 and she will be doing most of the plains game hunting.

The above was a 3 shot group at 100 yards. I know a few men that would struggle shooting 1/2 inch groups like that.

I was up at a cottage with the family. We were fishing off the dock and my older boy landed a beauty, so I took it to eat. Well, my three children looked at me like I was some sort of monster. F@#$ that I thought and we had a long talk: sustainable use, nutrition, health etc. I enrolled in the hunting course and the firearms course. So did my parents, wife and two boys. My daughter did not want to shoot.

Since then we have hunted turkey, deer, moose, geese and duck. My sons are vocal proponents of hunting. We shoot regulalry to make us the best we can be. My daughter has no problem fishing and has been a good sport in trying the new diet.

We are all going to Africa next year.

Every chance I get to have kids involved, or other adults that are interested in learning they are welcome.

This is the latest addition to the prospective conservation crowd.
He asked to help carry my rifle .375 H&H and wants to come hunting this year.
I told him to ask his mom and if she said yes, he was welcome to join me.
I can't wait. Pretty sure he will be allowed to.
In the meanwhile we will be watching birds and other critters and taking pictures and just enjoying everything nature as to offer.

This 'bambino' was about 6 months old when he started doing photographic tours in Botswana / Namibia and Zimbabwe with me...did his first standing in a 5 gallon cool box...Today his is 15 years old and quite an avid hunter...and yes, we still need someone making the fire each night (appy work)...

Spent today arranging this result with the help of KMG Hunting Safaris associates Louw and Graham at Mpunzi Lodge. Graham was the acting PH and did an excellent job.
The hunters name is Sia. He is the nephew of the House manager of the rental house I am staying in. I decided to invite him to be my tour guide. (Someone who has never really been anywhere outside PA and PE in his life, if you get my drift.)
He is a good kid and I happened to find out he lost this mom to cancer in May (now orphaned) and at that point I also heard he had never seen an Elephant. I knew "we must make a plan".

Never saw a live Elephant prior to the day before. Apparently they have some at Addo. I got him within 8 feet. He said he was scared of Elephants. I told him he should be. "They are huge" Had to agree with that one to.

It was actually quite fun to have a Xhosa interpreter. A "parking assistant" at the local mall called me "old man". The hair gives me away. Not sure if it was snide or respectful. It was funny one way or the other.


Sia had never touched a firearm before yesterday, walked in the veld or seen many of the animals he was about to encounter.
Taking a rookie hunting is way too much fun.
He took his first shot off the sticks yesterday, literally. I coached him in exactly what to do and he followed the instructions to the letter.
He said he was "very nervous".

We found out the gun was quite a bit out and that likely facilitated the first miss with his first shot. Graham fixed that little issue before todays adventure.
Today Sia was on the sticks again and took his first animal at 74 yards. One shot and done. Biltong in the Bakkie.

On the way home he told me he slept with his new AH cap on the night before and he would be sleeping with his new Mpunzi shirt and AH Cap on tonight.

I was well blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, really wanted a son but ask the good lord for healthy children and got it.
all 3 of my girls love the outdoors ,started shooting with bb gun about three years old, then on to 22 rim fire and up.
they are all grown now and only 1 of the 3 hunt, but all fish. I have taken quite a few kids hunting and fishing and really enjoy their eagerness to learn, love the smiles , and being thankful. Forrest

first fish in zambia on iteshi-teshi, and then getting older slowly. his first was a puku with his .22 hornet but cant find a photo...lechwe was also with his hornet, sable with my 9.3x62. others are finn tara and byron with home made bows and arrows in the luangwa about to head of on the hopeful mission of getting a monkey or baboon......... waterbuck and bushbuck is with his jeffery .223. francolin his .22 ruger. oh and his first tiger . here is to the people who asked me when finn was first coming to zambia "does he like it"? and i said "ok he is a boy who gets to play with knives, fire and guns....what do you think?"......there would be a pause .....and most would go "yeah ok i can see that"....but there were the"OTHERS" who looked at me like i was a total lunatic to put him through this , so all i can say to those is go get a life and dont fkn procreate........ if i have missed any photos i am sure finn will crap on me as he is now 6ft 2in........and throws mummy over his shoulder when he feels like it

oh i forgot to say that other parents told me that even at 7/8 yrs he was telling his school mates that you only hunted the old males who were past breeding age etc.... especially to the blonde girls in his class !!!

Moose hunting in Quebec with both boys was a real treat. The youngest had fun also chasing grouse with his new bow. I got caught in a torrential downpour when I was following a trail and my phone crashed. I only have this one photo of the entire experience! lots of sign and hiking but no moose. But we have awesome memories.
