I may have gotten ahead of myself in planning but haven't quite booked a trip yet.
Does anyone know if an alcohol conviction prohibits travel to south Africa? My son in a moment of stupidity when he was 21 just over 5 years ago got a dwai here in colorado. That's why wr hunt alaska and not Canada.
This busy popped into my head this morning and caused me concern.
I don't go anywhere without him, he's truly my best friend.
Thank you
Wade

Welcome Wade glad you started posting, this is Jim from Gypsum.

On your son DWAI I am pretty sure that he is OK for South Africa. We had one hunter in our group that had a DWI and everything was fine.

I would suggest that you check with the travel expert on the forum here. She should be able to answer the question for sure. She runs Travel Express and we used her for our trip out of Denver.

Good idea Jim,
I spoke with her already about best travel months. I'll send her another message about this.

They let me in, so I would assume you’re good to go!

I can’t believe that we won’t let people with DUI’s across the border! Learn something new every day

I've read it can go either way crossing into Canada. But not worth spending the money and taking a chance. I've know of a couple that got turned back.

Hi Wade, I have not heard of anyone with issues getting into Africa. Canada is definitely a problem..........

Hope this helps!

I had a friend that was turned back at the Canadian border with Montana and didn't make the goose hunt with the rest of his buddies. If that list you posted is accurate, all I can say is WTF! Mexico, that is rich.

How would they ever know ? It doesn't effect your passport validity. Is there a declaration form (if so I don't remember one) when entering these countries?

Not sure anywhere else but we share information with canada. As soon as your name comes up so does your record apparently

Kinda funny, that list! I’ve damaged a good portion of my liver in several of those countries!

Never gonna be an issue unless you tell them. To go hunting in South Africa I would be willing to conveniently forgot a portion of my life if need be. GO hunt.

With all the information sharing that goes on between countries I would hate to be at the customs desk in SA when they scanned my passport and something came up where I wasn't allowed into the country.

Canada is a problem on many levels , even if you have misdemeanors.

Yeah, Mexico really! The Margarita capital of the world! The cartels are shooting up the place with illegal fully automatic weapons and they’re worried about someone entering the country with a DUI! Unbelievable!

File an expungement, if possible under Colorado law. 5 years after sentencing to expunge on misdemeanors in Indiana. 8 years after sentencing for felonies in Indiana. One expungement per lifetime here. Good luck!

Only place that I heard was a problem is Canada. There may be other places is your driving.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
