Do I need a gun licence

Hello from Australia.
I have been hunting and shooting for over 40 years,was living in New Zealand and have now shifted back to Australia.
With everything going on I don't know if I'll even be able to get a shooters licence any time soon
My question is can I still hunt in either South Africa or Namibia and use outfitters rifle.
I'll be hunting plains game.

Rental of an outfitters rifle there isn't an issue, it's done all the time, no license required. Your outfitter has one or more available, just ask. I used two different rifles of my PH's in the Eastern Cape on a hunt where I didn't want to bring mine. And on all of my other hunts I discussed possibly using one of theirs in case mine got misplaced by the airline. Never a problem.

Under benefit of doubt:
Yes.
Few times I used rental rifles, they did not ask for my national licenses.

Dont trust us:

When booking the hunt, ask your outfitter what documents you need.
Generally, you will need: passport, and hunting contract, or invitation to hunt.

In either country hunters would be covered by the Outfitters license.

You would be directly supervised at all times by the PH and that will allow you to be in compliance with the provincial and countries laws.
The Outfitter will arrange your local hunting license and permits.

Nothing required from your country of origin for hunting purposes.

G'day @rob7mm08 . Don't get your info from the media or the internet. What State you live in, what citizenship you hold and your residency situation will be important. The only State going along with the current nonsense is NSW (so far). Even with the new NSW laws, permanent residents who are New Zealand citizens are allowed to hold a licence. For most states I'd suggest contacting your local SSAA State office and getting the local info. If in Qld it maybe better to contact Shooters Union until the Qld SSAA mess is sorted out. If in WA maybe move to another State, ditto for NSW.

I'm Australian and from nsw, I know I'll be able to get a licence in time, just wanted to know if I need one to hunt in Africa ( SA and Namibia).

I took my 30-06 to Namibia last year and they asked for no license at all from me (of course there is no license needed to own a firearm in the US so I don’t have one anyway) they just issued me one for my rifle upon arrival. Definitely won’t need one to just use an outfitters rifle.

Most countries consider our 4457 as a license for firearms even if we don't have a actual "license"

When I can. I went through Albury to do the Errol Mason course. I want to get to the shop in Wangaratta and catch up with someone there who I met up here years ago.
No Sambar have been harmed or hunted.
I seem to be over in Adelaide more than anywhere else lately.
I have a holiday planned with the wife that involves a Ferry, planning for June so I hope to catch you over a coffee at least.

Nothing on the 7mm-08 yet, and when I get my licence back for Australia I'll be getting one again.
Depending on what we will be able to own I'll get a varmint rifle a medium game rifle, big game and dangerous game rifle.

In a pinch the Tikka CTR in 7mm-08 could do the job on medium game and pass as a varmint rifle.

I agree with that I used my 7mm-08 on everything in New Zealand, good practice also
