Oh hell no. That is an extraordinary rifle.

WOW what a handsome piece of work! But beyond my means:(.
Maybe Santa needs to get you this!

Toby, if you can afford it, then you can't go wrong. Duke McCaa is the largest Dakota dealer in the US to my knowledge. I was just out there 4 hours ago picking up a rifle, but unfortunately not a Dakota. The African series starts at around the price of the rifle you have found and they go up to about $16000. They are based on a M70 action and not a Mauser. It is my understanding that the big bore Dakotas are the equivalent of Rigbys. But Dakota does not make anything that compares to a London Best. Good luck in your decision!!!

And by the way his son L.D. is the managing director of Westley Richards U.S.A. right next door, if you want to move up in the rifle and gun world!!!

My decison is to go to Africa this year, so it kind of make this out of my reach. Unless I sell a few rifles that is. But in the end, it's almost too pretty to hunt with. I have mostly gone to sythetic stocks and stainless steel in my hunting rifles, and I'm afraid the Dakota would spend more time in the safe than it deserves.

I thought for a moment that you hand gone around the bend so to speak. Glad your still going on the hunt.

Not a chance I'd trade buying a rifle over going to Africa! I already have a hard enough time trying to choose a rifle from my own safe to hunt with. But, this Dakota sure is beautiful.

Good decision Toby458! They can take a gun, but they can never take your experiences from you. Your going to really enjoy your trip!
Get all the experiences you can as young as you can because (my experience) when you get older you can get the pretty guns, but you can’t go on the trips to use it. At 70, my time is running out to go hunting. JMO

Fine rifle!

Exactly my thoughts! And don't let being 70 stop you either! My dad is 79 and I can barely keep up with him in the woods! Maybe we can share a camp sometime.

Like women look all you want but if you touch just make sure you can afford it.

That is what I call a really good rifle. I would buy that over most doubles.

Really glad I wrote an $8,400 deposit check last month.

Being committed to a hunt is the best medicine for resisting expensive rifles!

Ok, second best medicine (best is the wrath of Kathy!).

That is a REALLY nice rifle in one of the all-time great calibers (despite what Cody says about it!).

In my defense, I didn’t bash the 404 J, I just bashed bullet availability of the 404 compared to the 416R. I also said if Kimber would chamber the Caprivi in 404J I would buy one the next day!

Tim is just trying to get the 404 crowd to come burn my house down! Lol
Cheers,
Cody

And if Kimber would make the Caprivi with a British style stock with a short, thin forearm, and express sights, they would sell a ton of them as well. No matter what the caliber. I've never owned a 404, but I do have a couple of 416 rifles. So that would be my reason to buy a 404 for the most part. Reading Taylor doesn't hurt either.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
