Correcting Mis-Marked barrel

I had a rifle made that involved setting a Lilja barrel in an FN receiver. the job was done vey well EXCEPT the cartridge chambering is 6mm Creedmoor and the gunsmith stamped 6.5 Creedmoor on the barrel. Any thoughts on how the .5 could be removed?

If a quality barrel finish, it might actually be easier and cheaper to rechamber.

Ouch. I love the 6CM, the better of the 2 for sure.

There’s always a way to turn a mistake into something unique and better than if it was perfect. Can you share a picture of the barrel stamp?

I had a gunsmith rebarrel a .300 Weatherby to a .257 Weatherby.

He didn't stamp it at all.


It is now one of the most accurate rifles in my collection, and I will probably never sell it, but the lack of a stamp concerns me a bit.


(But, if my son, decides to sell that magnificent rifle, after my demise, someone on this forum should, absolutely, buy it)

Depending on the picture, I would have X's stamped over 6.5, and 6 placed above the markings.

(This should be done, at no charge, and a $100+ refund would be in order)

I don’t know the relevant laws where you live, but here that rifle would be illegal. It would need to be corrected at the smith’s expense. Having said that I have seen an interstate smith built rifle stamped 7x57 that shot like garbage and the brass looked funny….it was an8x57 , my gunsmith friend had an engraver correct it to help hide the mis-stamping

Rechamber wouldn't work- it would need to be rebored from 6mm to 6.5mm.

Attaching photo. I tend to not pursue repeat business with gunsmiths that botch a job, so what I'm considering is finding another gunsmith who would take off the barrel, chuck it up and lathe off just enough of the barrel to remove the stamping, then restamp it then reblue. I've gone through the local gunsmiths- anyone have a recommendation for this, what should be a small job?

Did one week before last & had it laser engraved, then I Cold Blued it, looked the part !

Carl Kampfeld has a small ball mill to do the markings -- he is doing one for me as we speak.
