I recently saw a nice gun with claw mounts on it but no rings or scope or anything. I know buying and installing the mounts alone can be $1500 plus. But what is the "plan" once you buy the gun? Go find matching rings that can fit your scope and have someone put those on the scope?

It’s often said that these claw mount rings were always hand filed and fit and that finding rings to fit bases is almost impossible.
Also, the rings were often soldered to the scope tube (or bell) so that makes finding rings to fit even more difficult.
It’s probably better these days to replace the claw bases with something more modern.

You can call JJ Perideau and he will make you mounts but they are expensive

I was fortunate to have found a 6.5x55 with everything there. Mounts, rings and scope (an early Zeiss).
It would not have been economically feasible to have rings made to fit the mounts.
Leupold used sell rings that could be custom fit to the infinite specs of claw mounts

If JJ Perodeux is doing them for what he used to, you'd better run to him before he changes his mind or his charges.
It is imminently worth it to do. You won't really know what a drilling's versatility is until you scope it.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.
