Hello Gents,
just wondering what are the opinions on carbon fibre arrows for a 55 pound compound bow.
thanks, Markcz

Hello @MarkCZ ,

Did you mean to inquire as to if carbon arrows are the best material recommended for a 55lb. draw compound bow, or which brand of carbon arrows to use?

Carbon or carbon fiber arrows are pretty much the industry standard for modern compound bows. They are lighter, faster, and more adaptable to FOC manipulation over aluminum shafts. The exception being a full metal jacket arrow shaft that combines carbon fiber with an aluminum core to acquire the best aspects of both materials. FMJ's are usually the highest grain per inch shaft which limits their use to applications best suited for a heavy arrow that can take a lot of abuse. For most hunting applications, the carbon fiber arrow is the preferred material of choice... There are many manufactures today offering endless choices of carbon fiber arrows for any budget. All manufacturers will have spine chart that will help you to select the best spine for your individual draw weight and draw length. Not to endorse any particular manufacturer, but a few of the better manufactures to consider would be Easton, Carbon Express, Gold Tip, and Victory to start...

Hi Limcroma, that is just the response I was looking for, many thanks.

I suggest to download this dynamic spine [which is what matters vs. your bow performance] calculator:

and take the time of reading the instructions; it is excellent for tinkering with shafts' dimensions, BH weight, GPI, length, FOC, fletching type, inserts-outserts weights, etc. to match your bow performance; before deciding what to buy. After that is the usual tuning exercise, without having to waste money on a dozen shafts. And yes, despite what the site says, it has a database of compound and carbon arrow to select from, or room for inserting specific shaft dimensions, spine, and weight.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
