I'm wondering if anyone's had a firearm export permit issued by the Government of Canada since the Public Service Alliance (most government employees) went on strike last week?

I applied for a permit and was advised on April 19, 2023 that it was "issued." I've heard nothing since, and haven't received the email I usually get with the permit. I assume - since that's the day the government employees went on strike - that that's the holdup.

Has anyone else received an export permit during the strike?

And if you (a Canadian) hope to go to Africa in the near future, and you haven't applied for your export permits yet, you might think about your timeline . . .

Don’t scare me please…I bought a Merkle 470 DR from Ralf Martini in Canada. The exporter he is using said they first have to get the VAT Form 6 from our US ATF before they can ship to my US FFL. The exporter is Border View. That was three weeks ago. I was told the US side is 4-6 weeks for approval. I would appreciate your thoughts please. Thanks!!!

After tonight news seams the Gov has given the union an offer to mull over over the weekend. Pickets came down today, back up Monday "IF" the new offer is not what they want. My bet, they will get dam near all they are asking for and things will return to the same screwed up way it was before they went on strike.

Not sure of date you must have the permit, must say that trusting in a Gov entity always worries me.

Good Luck

Thanks for reminder. I just firmed up dates for August safari. I have email address for supervisor in Ottawa and he was helpful last time I temp exported.

One of the points the union is holding out for is working from home. God I hope they don't win that one. It's why I have that email address. Second time I went to Africa during COVID it was a case of govt servants working from home on an 18 month long coffee break!

Ralf is a great guy and knows his business. My guess (and it’s only that) is that this might delay things a bit, but if you’re not in a great hurry, then no harm done. I believe, for what it’s worth, that the people who deal with hunters are different than those who deal with permanent imports and exports of firearms. At least they were when I last imported a firearm (some years ago now).

Agree completely on the work from home.

The union says government workers can get the same amount of work done from home as they can from the office. The only evidence we have one way or the other is what happened during the COVID work-from-home period, and by the government’s own admission, there are backlogs in just about every area of the public service. With respect to immigration, for example, it seems almost no work got done for a couple of years and it will take at least that long to catch up. Yet the workers were being paid . . . So what were they doing at home?

Correct. I permanent exported two rifles for my lodge owner each of first two hunts. The minister must sign off on those.

Do you remember how long it took to get your gun from Canada from start to delivery to your FFL please?

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
