I love Dakota rifles and have several, but that is an odd combo, at for me anyway. But a 416 Rigby in a traveler is going to sell, no question.
I agree. Oddball combo. I am not in the market and felt it was fairly priced so thought I would share for someone on here who is possibly looking.

Thanks for sharing.

I would be all over it if it was a WM rather than a Lapua….

Someone else might see the appeal tho…

For Sure, if it was a win mag, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't mine owning the Rigby, but not sure I would want a Lapua.

Master G'smith Down Under, Rob Blomfield, built a switch/barrel in 416 Rigby, 300, and 338 Norma Mag a while back, I was somewhat envious of the owner ...

So, some of you think it is an oddball combo, but I own one. I bought it from a hunter that had it built with a dream of taking it to Africa and it never left his safe. The Lapua was chosen to accompany the Rigby for obvious reasons, case head. The craftsmanship was stellar on the older Dakota, its like a Swiss watch. I got all the papers and test targets on my Traveler and the build cost was $13K with the fitted Americase. So, this one is a great deal and someone needs to wake up. A single barrel Traveler would cost $8K.

When I got the rifle, I sent the barrels to Mag-na-port, did some research on handloads and worked up a load for the 338 Lapua that is comfortable and shoots extremely well. I have really enjoyed the rig on several Safaris and look forward to the next outing.

Eight grand seems pretty reasonable to me, even if the gun didn’t have the second barrel. Am I wrong about that? The Traveler always fetched a premium over the standard rifle.

Agree. If I dont have one I would buy it.

Absolute bullshit. Called Cabelas and had guy get it out and measure LOP. I said I would buy it. Guy said he couldn’t take credit card over the phone and I had to pay online on Cabelas website. Went to the website and you can’t pay online. Screwing around with this took maybe 15 minutes. Called back and he just told me that someone else looked at it after I hung up (to pay online like he instructed) and was in the process of purchasing. Did I say absolute bullshit?

I bet someone (else) here just got new Dakota....

Damn, that’s shit poor customer service. He should have never let you off the phone without making the sale.

They have done the same before. You cant trust them. May be be they have to list it. But lot of inside deals. Good ones always seem to disappear.

That’s BS. First off, Cabela’s only method of purchasing used guns other than physically being in the store is over the phone. The guy obviously had no clue at all. He should have held that for you the minute you said you were paying… sorry to hear that was your experience.

Oh, I was soooo miffed I forgot to mention he wrote my name down as the purchaser. . . then (he or someone else) sold it immediately after.

Well, if you're pissed, I am the guy you're pissed at. I just completed the purchase a little bit ago. Paid for it with a credit card over the phone. I talked to them about it earlier today and have been vacillating about it all afternoon and decided to pull the trigger (poor pun) this evening. Sorry

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
