Yesterday I acquired a new Browning A-Bolt 2 AAA Maple Hunter in .308 Win; I swapped a rifle that I've owned a few years, but never really warmed up to.

My brother has an older Micro Medallion that I like. My only issue with the old Brownings was that I had to put it on FIRE to cycle the bolt. That is no longer the case; this rifle has a bolt release. Additionally, this rifle is bedded at the factory and naturally, has a nice free-floating barrel. The trigger is adjustable, though I have not done so yet. Its pretty darned nice with the factory setting, although I would like to drop it a tad.

The weight is very nice at 6.8lbs (bareback), it balances well, and handles great.

I put a Swaro 3-10 on it last night that is great for shooting groups as you can really be precise with it and took it to the bench this morning.

Bore-sighted at 25yds and 3 shots put me dead-on at 100yds.

Next, I shot a .8" grp with some factory Winchester Deer Season XP 150gr bullets then followed that up with another sub-MOA grp using my pet load of Sierra 150gr SBT over Varget. I was very impressed and feel certain with a little bit of tailoring, I can tighten up a bit more...not that it is needed...but I like to tinker toward perfection.

I was just curious if any of y'all have experience with the newer X-Bolt 2s and you thoughts on the rifle.

I shoot pretty much all X-bolt rifles. They are a great, great value for the money. Aside from being push-feed, I think they're very well setup rifle. You can tweak them a little further with torque on the action screws. Browning service is top notch. I had an issue with one of mine and they took care of it no questions asked at no cost.

Very handsome rifle.

Anytime you start with factory ammo and get groups like that, you should end up with a half inch capable rifle with very little work. Looks like you got a good one. (y)

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
