why do you use a gun like that when a 308 is better for the job?
bruce.

That is a beautiful .458 Lott . It is a curious thing that you mention hunting wild boars . I just hunted four wild boars three nights ago . And I did it with a .450 bore , as well .

My own is a .458 WM ( Winchester Magnum ) that was custom built by Flaig’s in Millvale , Pennsylvania on a Winchester Enfield 1917 action with a 25 inch Douglas Premium barrel and a contoured French walnut stock . I used 500 grain factory loaded Nosler Partition soft nosed rounds .

Happy hunting and I love your excellent posts .

Looks like you have quite the piece of artillery there.
Muzzle brake and no way to remove it...that should be interesting.

You didn't mention if that is your scope or the previous owners.
Looks like a long range scope that could move your head off the stock a bit.
Could be a recipe for scope cut...watch out for that.

Blast from brake no issue....
Yes the scope is high but 72mm is so bright at night I don't mind moving my head up a tad...recoil is very little due to brake and heavy gun with 3 pounds of scope ...

Blast from the brake is rarely an issue for the shooter.
It's those around the shooter than usually have the problem.
I'm not a muzzle brake guy, but that's me.
You should have a blast (pun intended) hunting with it. ;)

True..only a fool would let someone stand next to the muzzle...that being said from my stand nobody is near me much less wirh me..
It is a "blast" to shoot..I also get a "kick" from it!

Who built the rifle? I love the scope. Why not put in a proper raised cheek piece? Perfect for a predator gun in .223 or .308.
The scope was for fun one evening..to much power for 40-60 yds ....Went on my .378 next...perfect combo...since then the 378 is gone and the scope is for sale...(had 3 of them)

Never...Tip of the day..Try using Liquid Masking Tape in your rings...Problem solved!
I like that. You sir must be an engineer of some sort

I use loctite sleeve retainer on my Lott and Rigby, just in case. Tried it on a 375 that I had a big Schmidt and Bender slide a bit on. I would imagine they work similar.

IF YOU DON'T COME UP WITH ANY .458, I WILL TRY AND GET MY KID TO PACK SOME UP FOR YOU BUT PROBABLY WOUDN'T BE TILL THIS WEEKEND AND GO OUT NEXT WEEK.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
