Blaser R8 RMR and Mount

20 bore has a rim diameter of .776" and a base diameter of .667" making 12K psi.

10.3x60 has a rim diameter of .618" and base diameter of .545" making 39K psi.

Opening up the base by .122 and lowering the pressure by 27K psi seems reasonable. But then again, when can you expect a German company to be reasonable. Besides, I still think it would be a single shot and there is very little market for it, so that's a NO....with the exception of a full on custom jobbie. BTW - How many shots do you usually need for a turkey? Mostly one shot kills from what I've seen. :A Stirring:

Might as well just buy an H&R for $150. Lol!

My son and I handled the Blaser Bockdrilling at SCI. For $12k it was a fantastic firearm. 20 gauge, .308 and a .22 magnum. I’d be more tempted by that rifle than by a R8 shotgun.

But… the chance I would buy an R8 shotgun barrel is near 100%.

Guys, just reviving this discussion to see if there have been any developments since this, particularly with regards to heavy recoilers like my 500j?
I am told Toby that this set up 'doesnt work' for the 500j, but I have no context.

Have any of you used Ziegler saddle mounts? One of them seems to have a direct RMR attachment top face.

Very Nice! I would like to find a similar setup for my Ruger No. 1 in 416RM, but all ive found thus far is a burris fastfire mount. Great looking setup you have there!
If they don’t have one that is a direct fit, they do make the mounts in blank form; so a competent gunsmith/machinist could make you a custom mount.

@Kevin Peacocke - I’m in the process of moving all my optics over to an INNOMOUNT QD mount. This will include two Swaro Z8i (rail) scopes and an AimPoint T2.

The advantages over the Blaser mounts. Use an Allen key to adjust tension instead of a flat screwdriver tip. The ‘wings’ that hold it in place swing out horizontally, instead of rotating in an arch. Some scopes have clearance issues with the rotating wing hitting one of the turrets on the left side. They are also less expensive, but still a top quality product coming out of Germany. The only downside is trying to get them in the US without paying double the cost because of import tax.

Not sure you will be needing something like this for a 500J, but they do make mounts for Docter and AimPoint too.

I took a look through the Blaser RM20 red dot today and i was really impressed by the clarity as well as the sharpness of the 2moa dot. As it incorporates the mount it is not that much higher than other set ups once you have added their requisite bases to the Blaser saddle mount.
My questions:
Is it up to the recoil of the 500 Jeffery?
Are you likely to get a half moon from it?

@Kevin Peacocke -With it being mounted on the barrel, you are EXTREMELY unlikely to get scope cut. I’m almost positive it supports the 500J recoil, but I can’t find anything that states it. Best to contact Blaser directly.

Thank you BeeMaa. Well, I went ahead and bought the Blaser RD20, so I will tell you if it is up to 500j in due course!

Kevin, check out Titanium Gun. I bought a couple innomount mounts for a Aimpoint and Doctor several years ago for a .458 Lott and .416 Remington Blaser R8, everything worked fine. Klaus is a good guy and a pleasure to do business with.

Did he shipped the mounts to US?
Do you remember if the cost included the 19% VAT (tax)?
Tks.

There have been issues with shipping to the US recently. You may need to employ some kind of workaround.
